I am looking for a digital camera, anywhere from 3 to 5 megapixels, that can fit a lens with 37mm thread. Does anyone know of any that have this feature?
Thanks in advance.

When you mean fit a lens . . . you mean filters with 37mm?

Hey spigs, there is a special lens that the camera needs to be able to use, and I was told that the inner thread of the lens is 37mm. When you depress the sides of the lens gasket, the lens should fit into the thread of the camera. I was told that this thread size is 37mm. Does this make any sense?
The old camera that we used the lens on is a Kodak DC120 Zoom Digital Camera, if that helps.
Thanks again.

If you can't find a camera you want that has the thread size you are looking for, you might be able to get a a suitable stepping ring (http://www.2filter.com/prices/products/rings.html).

Problem with step rings is you can get real bad vignetting.

True, although it's more a problem with step-down rings than step-up rings. I think more digital cameras use filters/lenses smaller than 37mm, so he'd probably be stepping up. My Coolpix 995 takes 28mm filters, for example.

That's true every camera I have seen so far has around 28mm thread :(
I'll research the step up ring. If I find out what kind of lens this is, I'll let you guys know.
Thanks for your help.

I believe the Sony Mavicas use 37mm thread...but you'll be hard-pressed to get the resolution you want. The only ones that come close are the MVC-CD series (the ones that record to mini CD-R/CD-RW) and even they are only in the low 3MP range.

what about some of the olympus cameras?
Are you looking into the professional line of cameras as well? May be cheaper in the long run to buy another lense for the newer camera. That way you can find a camera with the features you need, then find a suitable price

What is the lens (filter?) you want to use with the new camera? Unless it's some god-awful expensive piece of equipment, you're really limiting yourself by looking for a camera to fit the lens. Get a nice camera and then look for a replacement for the lens you have.
The nicer cameras will have a larger thread size than that anyway (my Olympus E-10 is 62mm), so why limit yourself for the sake of an add-on lens?

the 37mm size is more common in video cameras than in still cameras. . . but yes let us know what kind of lens thingy it is.

Ok so the lens is a 2x teleconverter lens. Still the largest I can find is 27mm. Anyone else got any hints?
Thanks!

The only digital cameras I have been able to find with a 37mm filter thread are the 2.0 megapixel Sony FD and CD Mavicas. Sony wouldn't be my first choice for digital cameras anyway. Like spigidygak said, 37mm is way more common in digital video cameras.
I say eBay the lens and buy a new one that fits the camera you purchase. :)

I side with ribitch on the brand. Olympus makes some great cameras. The camera I really want to get is the E-20. Whats holding me back? MSRP of $2000. I have seen it for $999 but that is just a little out of my range right now. Wow I checked CNET just now, lowest is 879... err damn you SO tempting, ohh they are Refurbs though 1099 for new.
Here are the E20 specs http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_product_lobbypage.asp?l=1&p=16&bc=3&product=714
Check out http://www.dpreviews.com for other camera reveiws. The e20 is on there.

OK, I know this is a bit off topic from what you were asking, but I know that the new Nikon D-100 takes all regular nikon lenses. I am actually waiting for this to come down a bit in price, and then I am going to pick one up for myself.
I figured that I can no longer just sit idlely by and watch as everyone and their mother have digital cameras besides me, but I have been sitting on the fence for a while. We do have a Sony 3.1 mb (DSCP75, I think)that we got a few years ago when 3.1 was the highest you could go. But I still prefer my film cameras to it...which is why the D-100 will probably work for me.

Sure - like seqiro says, ebay the lens. Then, get yourself a digicam w/a nice big optical zoom, like the Olympus C-730 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006JLWJ/qid=1036588375/sr=8-1/ref=)
Skynet - look at the E-10 instead if you're serious about getting one. You're trading 5Mp for 4, but it's several hundred $ cheaper, it's faster & has pretty much all the same features as the E-20. $839 new from Buydig, even less for refurbs...
