I posted this thread in Home Theatre and got no comments, so I am posting it here, since they really are PC based, and not really Home Theatre equipment (or are they?).
And I bet that Dell will have these pretty soon at a good price.

The Best 5.1 Speakers Ever?
http://www.extremetech.com/article2...3,652870,00.asp
The Z-680s aren't just the Z-560s with an additional speaker and a new box. For its flagship 5.1 offering, Logitech threw the kitchen sink at it, and bulked up with features.

Lots Of Features: These features include a beefed up 450-watt amplifier, a decoder to handle DTS, Dolby Digital and ProLogic II, a line-level input jack for your DiscMan or MP3 player, and a headphone jack for those late-night gaming or movie sessions. Also new is a wireless IR remote that allows the tweaking of center, subwoofer and surround channel volume levels, overall volume level, a mute toggle, an effect selector, an input selector, and a test button that sequentially outputs pink noise through the five satellites to verify correct speaker configuration.

Speaker Cabinets: The Z-680s have a tuned port cabinet enclosure with an 8" driver. What makes this cabinet a little unusual is that the port, rather than being a straight tube, is actually u-shaped. Logitech did this to lengthen the port, and get a correspondingly lower resonant frequency. A straight port tube would have required a larger speaker cabinet.

Thanks for the correct link, UTMemo

I have been waiting for these :) Too bad they cost an insane amount of money. Dell needs to start carrying them with some deals ;)

This place has lukewarm prices on Logitech speakers, including the Z680's. However, they are for preorder.

Well, logitech is going to send me a new set of 560's for free. But I had to....I had to....I had to cut off the power cord to the subwoofer, and send them that and the control box. Cutting the cord was so....painful. So wrong.

On the other hand, I've just hooked up two fo the logitechs to my home theater as rear channels, and they are suprisingly nice sound there.

Hey LP, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to rewire a new power cord ;)

The lack of a control box though, that's a bummer. Technically can't you do a parallel connection to your new set so that there will be 2 speakers each instead of one? So that'd be what... like 8.1 and another 200 watt sub bumping away?

I wanna buy my own set of 560's in a couple of months probably... Nuts, sell me yours for free.

well, sure I could rewire the plug, but without the control box, your SOL.

uhm.. you had to cut it for them to send you a set for free? wha?! take advantage of some warranty?

When will they make a sweet 5.1 with no cords to the satelites. I always end up tripping over them.

Hmm I'm sure some will say klipsch are better and some say logitech is better, kinda like with the klipsch 4.1 and the z560's...

BUT:

These look cooler, and it has an LCD thingy on the controller. As many of you know, anything with LCD = win. :D

what, you want the sub? I'm keeping the speakers, but I'd sell the sub I suppose.
