Going to compile information about the Doom 3 leak here.
http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=44077&cid=4591655
John Carmack posts the following about the leak:
No, this was not leaked on purpose.
Yes, we are upset about it, and it will have some impact on how we deal with some companies in the future, but nothing drastic is going to change in terms of what support is going to be available.
Making any judgements from a snapshot intended for a non-interactive demo is ill advised.

From a post on Quake3World
http://www.quake3world.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/060281.html?
It looks like an IRC chat log with id software's Xian commenting on the recent leak of the E3 Doom 3 test.
Xian> ATI leaked it
Xian> oh we will. We are hoping our rep gets fired.
Xian> John sent them a flame mail yesterday basically saying "This has hurt our relationship"
Xian> haha, no
Xian> not really
Xian> they sent us a development laptop with a full build of Unreal Warfare on it
Xian> yep
Xian> Well, we deleted it
Xian> that's a whole can of worms we don't want to get into
Xian> yeah, well, ATI has clearly violated our NDA
Xian> we thought about that.
Xian> but, no
Xian> ATI is on our ****list righ tnow
Xian> we are not dealing with them until further notice
Xian> no, it's not public chiQ
Xian> We know ATI leaked it. We watermark all releases
Xian> Squiggle: ATI has a relaxed policy about pre-release software. Remeber, they ave us a laptop that had Unreal Warfare loaded on it 3 months ago
Xian> They don't seem to care about strict enforcement of NDA's
Xian> on a positive note, people seem to *REALLY LIKE* the leaked ****
If you find anything else interesting, post here.

Wait so what? They released a leaked demo? Where? When? Why? How? And to what extent should I go to get this demo? ahaa j/k, that sucks.. If I do go into game design, this would point not to trust ATI :hmm:

I really don't know what I would do with an Alpha release of Doom 3... I know for a fact that my computer couldn't handle it. :(

Here's something I found really interesting in the Bluesnews forums/comments thingy
i figured someone would have been smart enough to realise this, but i guess not. LOOK AT THE GAME, IT OBVIOUSLY LOOKS BORDERLINE SOFTWARE-RENDERED. THEREFORE, i did some digging around in the doomconfig.cfg file, and if you scroll down like halfway, there are a series of 5 or so different settings with all 0's and NV20 set to "1"
simply change whatever renderer you wish to use (i found Standard OpenGL to be the fastest on my Radeon 9700 pro) to "1" and set all the others to 0 and VIOLA, i get 70fps.
For Example: the renderer section in my new CFG file looks like this:
seta r_useStandardGL "1"
seta r_useParhelia "0"
seta r_useNV20 "0"
seta r_useNV30 "0"
seta r_useGL2 "0"
(you might have to tinker a bit, but trust me, it works, and i suspect that even with a gf2Ultra and a 600mhz you could get like 20fps out of it on low detail when using the right rendering engine)
thanks in advance folks, have fun with the demo
BTW if you're wondering, that 70fps comes from an:
AthyXP 2.2GHZ
512Ram
ATI Radeon 9700Pro
7200PRM WD HD
ASUS MB
Note the different chipset settings and how the default was on NV20. But then...
This is not necessarily correct. The r_useNV20 setting means to use the NV20-spec path. Carmack writes different paths for different generations of chipsets, based on the number of possible pixel shaders, vertex shaders, the available register combiners, etc. The same generation of cards from ATI and nVidia would use the same path; likely the Radeon 8500 would use the NV20 path. So, the fact that r_useNV20 was set to 1 doesn't mean the leaked copy didn't come from ATI; Carmack just likes to name his paths after nVidia chipsets.
So, for those of you with a 9700 Pro, setting r_useNV30 to 1 instead of r_useStandardGL would be worth a try, since the 9700 Pro is the same generation as the NV30.
Interesting...

Wow, I just found out that this was a leak. I have had this for a WHILE, I knew it was an Alpha, but I didn't know that it wasn't supposed to be lurking around. I figured it was for the company to be happy with what they have made so far. I am extremly impressed with what I have seen, and playing this demo has sealed the deal for me, I definatly will be buying this game once it is released. I was considering before, but now there is no question.

Yeah, the machine they used at the E3 demo was a 2.2Ghz running an ATI prototype video card that is now known as the Radeon 9700.
I too need to build a new machine. So crazy that a 1Ghz is now the recommended processor speed for most games, I think the programmers are just lazy and just not writing clean code. But of course, Doom III is a whole different story, John Carmack only writes clean code.......Da man is GOD!

Clean code my butt. I have a 1.4 Athlon system on a KR7A with 256MB PC2100 and a Geforce 4 and I could barely get 20 FPS.
Of course, they clean up code after the alpha, but still, don't expect your system to play this thing well.
But the graphics were just beautiful. Man. I really can't wait for games to use this engine.

Hey, has anyone tried playing with these settings? Results? I've heard that running w/1GB RAM will also improve things.

completely breathtaking..
Only downfall.. SLOW AS SH|T.. My friend had a dream system a gig of ram, P4 2.53ghz (oC'd to over 3ghz) Radion 9700 pro.. and he was still only getting 20 fps (IF that) looked like Counterstrike on a 4meg video card running software mode graphics.. BUT it was great.. I need to get the demo from him.. (even though it will run like my grandmother in the olympics) But hey.. i'd still have it.. hehe WELL worth the wait..
wait.. i forgot to mention he had all the eye-candy turned on too.. so he'd probably get 50FPS or so with it lowered and even more off.. who knows..

How do you adjust the graphics in the game?
