I have Monsoon Wedding on my harddrive-but would like to burn it off to disc and free up some room ...how the hell do I get it to fit on one disk? It's a 934 mb file..and if it won't fit on one disc how can I split it and get it on two discs?
Thanks

it would help to know what format it's in, and how you will be viewing it in the future. for example, perhaps it's in mpeg format, and you wish to burn it to watch on your dvd player that's capable of playing vcds. personally, i use divx for my stuff and watch them on my dreamcast. sometimes the conversion itself makes it smaller, and sometimes you need to split it into two readable files.

also it would help to know how if your burner is capable of burning 700mb disks. mine's only capable of burning 650mb disks, which can be limiting for this kind of thing. since you're talking about a 934mb file tho, it may not make so much difference.

oh, also how much room do you have left on your hard drive? just about anything you want to do with it will involve needing some extra space to work with. if it's in mpeg and you want to make it divx, you'll need around half that space to work with to convert it. if you want to split it into 2 files you'll need an equal amount of space to work with.

you need to convert the avi to mpeg or mpeg2 to get it on a disc. Some burning software will do this for you before it burns a VCD, but it is a fairly slow process, and you will lose quality.

the avi file is actually divx...or not a "real avi" file. i burn those to disk alla time really. but since it's that big, you'll either have to split it, or redo it to a lesser quality to fit it all on disk.

if you want to put it into mpeg2, you should prolly use tmpeng. if you wanna keep it as mpeg4, you should prolly use avisynth. read up some at www.svcdhelp.com and www.divx-digest.com to get familiar with the process. it takes some doing, but it's worth it. if you go with the mpeg4 to mpeg4 thing, i have a handy tutorial for avisynth kicking around here somewhere if you need it.
