Ok so i'm all out of ideas.

I have recently Installed win XP on both machines
both machines are on a LAN
Same workgroup was specified during installation
TCP/IP settings are set manually, DHCP is off

One computer can se the workgroup and both computers in it
Second computer sees the workgroup but can't access it.

ANy ideas?

He says he disabled the router. That doesn;t make any sense to me, but maybe that will somehow help you. Sorry.

Try installing IPX protocol on both machines. Tell us what happens then.

WinXP has a built in firewall. You may have it disabled on one, but enabled on the other.

if one Pc is FAT and the other is NTFS that could be the problem.

Just search for the Computer name or PC ip and you can find it using the find feature off the start menu.

Well I don't know exactly why but I know that NetBeui used to be the answer to all Windows networking problems for me, but then they did away with it for IPX. If you have two computers networked running netbeui and then try to add a XP machine, you have to install IPX to get it to work.

Anyways man glad it worked :thumb:
