I have call waiting on my phone line.

To get call waiting to work when on-line, can I use a standard V.90 Modem?

Will any V.92 modem work?

Is the call waiting program in the modem or the SOFTWARE?

Is the software proprietary?

Thanks

You have to disable call waiting while using your modem, usually using #70, XXX-XXXX does the trick. I have not seen any codes that allow you to have call waiting run at the same time because the call waiting "noise" causes the modem to hangup.

I have seen at a number of places is a gizmo that will work the way you want. It goes in between your phone line and your PC so that you can answer your phone or receive a fax. I can't remember what it is call though but I have seen it.

I agree. I have always used *70 to disable call waiting when useing a modem.

I have also heard of the device that will switch to the other line.

But there are now modems for sale that work with call waiting. You can put your ISP on hold and take a call that will ring through.

I was told it's "software", but that's all I know, and I'm not sure about that.

Sam's Club had some Call Waiting Modems but sold out when I went to get one a few days ago. A guy there said all I need is the software.

Motabota is talking about a v.92 modem which supports call waiting. you need to make sure your isp supports call waiting. call them and find out. you probably wont be able to get it to work with a v90 modem.

I still don't know if ALL V.92 modems will work with call waiting software or if it's part of the hardware on some V.92 modems.

I went to another Sam's Club last nite and they had the modem in stock.

It's a "CPU Builders" (never heard of them) V92 56K PCI Modem, fax, voicemail and call waiting. $15.

The print almost wants you to think it's a hardware modem, but it's a software (WIN) modem.

Now I need to find out if my ISP's support Call Waiting.

Thanks for the help.
