Just wondering everyone's opinion on the best credit card to get. I'm looking for one with a killer rewards program, no annual fee( if it's possible), and some good price protection. Give me your opinions on what you like, don't like.

a trick to avoiding the annual fee... when the bill comes, call them up and tell them you don't want to pay it, they'll waive it for that year. saves 20 bucks for 5 min on the phone. Not sure if this works with CC's that offer lots of rewards, but my dad told me about it a few years ago, and i've done it for about 4 years now. *shrug* and they've never given me any hassle about it either! :D

It depends on what you want. (Ie airline miles, cash back, free carwash, anything really) I recomend Chase. I just saw an ad for Bank One and it seemed okay but I don't really know on that one.

I think generally most of them with some kind of rewards are going to all be around 1% back in some way. For instance, I have a card from Citibank that gives me 1% to spend on Sony products. I think the Discover cards give 1% cash back.

Even though you said you'd rather not have an annual fee, I'll still say that I love my Amex Gold. I think they give about 1% in their "points", which you can use in many ways. Plus, they have their pricematching, which basically usually saves me about $800 a year (it can go up to $1000). You can find plenty of details on this around this site.

Amex Gold. Got to agree with Cubsfan as I just used it to PM Dell with some sleezy internet reseller on my new digital camera (Sony F717). $220 coming back at me which brings me to $960 in cash back for the year. Whoohoo!!!

i'm using sony platinum card (citibank) and it expires this month.

i've been with them for about 3/4 years now, going trhough about 30k with the card over that time....

and i'm really disappointed that they still haven't sent me a replacement card for it....

no anual fee....1% rewards...
but a high 13.99 apr (high for a platinum card).

i'm going to call them up at the end of the month...complaining that i've been using this card for everything, and yet they don't even have the decency to send me a replacement unless i call to ask for it..
then i'm gonna ask them to lower my credit limit on the card (right now at 15k) to lke 5k, and ask them if they'll lower my apr....
if not...i'll pay off whatever i have...earn a few more points *(bout 3/4k)....get a ps2, and cancel the card....

i HAVE gotten a 300 disk cd changer out of it already...

I've made easily over $1000 so far because of AMEX's pricematching. :)

I'll try to explain it with the Amex Gold.

They have a feature called "Best Value Guarantee". This means that if you buy something with your Amex Gold card, and then for up to 60 days after that find it for a better price, they will refund the difference.

Example:
I buy a TV at Best Buy for $1000. I go home, look on the internet, and find it for $800. I print out the advertisement, call the Best value Guarantee line, give them the info, and two weeks later, they send me a check for $200.

You can do this for up to $250 per item and $1000 per yer

I'll give my examples that I can remember:

I paid $75 for the card per year.
This year, I have gotten:
Car Amp for $400, found it on the internet for $275. Got $125 back
Car Sub for $200, found on internet for $125, got $75 back
Ok, I'm blanking now, but I've done this with a few other things
too.

So basically I paid $75 for the card, and thanks to the features, I got $200 back (actually it's closer to about $800 now, just can't remember the rest).

On top of this, you also get about $1 on $100 back on reward points, so those add up too.

Now, if you want a credit card to rack up debt, this one isn't it. There's no spending limit, but you have to pay your bill off every month, so no debt on this one :)

Hope that kind of explains it. Let me know if you need more info!
