Ok, I need some help. I would like to access my Work PC from home. My Work Pc is Running WinXP Pro and so is my Home system.
My Work Pc is on a LAN and my home PC is on Dialup
What is a good easy and free way to do this?
I tried to get the remote Desktop Sharing to work with net meeting either. I think it is because I am on a LAN. And my IP is assigned Via DHCP server but I can set my IP to a fixed IP I just can’t Ping that Ip from out side the network.
Thanks,
GrapeDude

Most likely you are not going to be able to do what you want. Most companys use an internal non internet routed ip scheme and then run NAT at the firewall/router. Even if you are not using NAT at work, I would assume that the Network Admin has blocked most incomming traffic to the internal network.
If your work ip is one of the following you are using NAT at work and more then likely won't be able to access that machine other then through a company provided vpn client:
10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

There is a product called Dameware that should do the trick for you. Website is here: http://www.dameware.com
I use it to connect to my LAN from home and can do remote management of any work pc, including registry edits, remote reboot of servers, etc, etc...
Plus you can try it for free for 30 days.
O yeah, just remembered too, we are using VPN software, so check with your LAN Admin at work (unless you are the admin) and find out what version they are using. If they won't give you the cd for vpn, most of the software can be found through site such as Nortel for free.

This all depends on the Cooperation of your IT department. If they are willing to open ports for you and set your work computer to a static IP address then it's pretty simple.. BUT, if they are being stubborn and won't help you, there isn't much you can do other than taking the whole computer home every night..
There are many programs out there you can use VNC is one of them.. Free (as far as I know), PC anywhere and many others.. Only problem is connection speed.. won't be worth it if you have dial up at home for these programs basically emulate everything on your work PC's screen.. you remotely take control of the desktop and see everything..
But, then again, if your admins won't help you then the point is basically moot.
