random beating

Lucky me.

Last Tuesday I was the recipient of a random beating by person(s) who have yet to be identified by the authorities. I was found staggering around a parking lot behind a gas station in the middle of the afternoon. I was rushed to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and placed in the intensive care ward for a day and a half, then in a private room for two days. I was discharged on Friday.

I was diagnosed as having had a seizure and a serious brain contusion (bruising and bleeding of the brain, the most extreme form of concussion). The doctors were able to induce clotting to stop the bleeding, but at least one sizeable clot broke off and is now floating around in my brain. Thus stroke is now a major concern, but I should be okay if I take my medications and avoid exerting myself. I lost one tooth and another is cracked. My left ear and forehead were stitched back together.

I have total memory loss of everything that happened between Tuesday morning through Thursday morning, including this entire event. All of the evidence (or lack thereof) indicates that this was a completely random and isolated event. I have no enemies. I know very few people in this area because I've only lived here for a few months. I can not think of a single person who wishes me harm. I was found next to my car, which was running with the keys in the ignition and the door wide open. I still had my wallet in my pocket. Nothing was taken. This happened in Orchard Park, NY, which is a very nice upper-middle class suburb of Buffalo with practically zero crime rate. Nobody here has ever heard of anything like this happening before. There are many, many unanswered questions.

So far I've missed one week of school (I'm a biophysics graduate student at Roswell Park Cancer Institute) and will miss at least one more. I'm not supposed to drive until next week and my license might soon be revoked because of the seizure. I have very loud ringing in my ears, get frequent headaches, and have difficulty concentrating and reading. Hopefully this won't last long, else my life will have to change very drastically.

Tomorrow I have a meeting with the detective who is in charge of the investigation. It'll be interesting to see if they've found anything. I sure hope so because I'd really like to know why this happened and who I can thank for this wonderful beating. Yes, the world truely is a beautiful place (much sarcasm intended).

Yes, I was wondering where you went... I was starting to miss you. I'm sorry you got jumped, this sounds really awful. I'm fearfull on strokes as my girlfriend's mother died after 2 weeks in the hospitol recovering from a stroke. I wish I could understand why this would happen to you...My best guess would be mistaken identity. I hope everything goes well for you. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Keep us up to date on how your recovering.

Wow, sorry that this happened to you. Do random beatings like this occor in your area alot?? seems rather odd that a person or persons would just beat the hell out of someone like that, but then again people now a days are pretty sick and twisted. Hope you get better

hope you got some serious training to go along with that, otherwise the chances are greater that the weapon will be used against you than that you will use it to your advantage... *shudder* ugly thought.

napoleon, you sound very coherent, which is wonderful. your brain is obviously still working... have a speedy recovery, and i hope someone finds something!

if you can afford it (or want to take up a collection) offer a reward for tips that lead to the capture of the idiots. a few posters in the neighborhood where it happened just might get you somewhere...

My thoughts exactly. It's kinda ironic, just a few weeks ago I started thinking very seriously about getting my concealed carry permit. Now I have even more motivation. I've kept my shotgun within reach under the bed ever since I got home. My gf's dad has about a dozen handguns and is more than willing to help me through the necessary paperwork.

Agreed. A weapon is only useful if one knows how to use it safely and effectively. That's a responsibility that far too many people don't take seriously enough.

Thanks welfare! Brain is working, but it it is taking me quite a bit longer to form coherent thoughts and such. A little groggy still, but getting a little better each day.

The police department is running an advertisement in the newspaper this week, hopefully it'll develop some leads. [crosses fingers]

Revil and Yoss: your help is greatly appreciated, I'll let you know if we find the people responsible. My girlfriend's uncle says he'll send a truck full of rednecks up from Texas to take care of the perpetrator(s), and my neighbor wants in too, quote: "I haven't shot anybody since Vietnam."

InfiniteNothing: mistaken identity is a very good possiblity; either that or it was completely random. I'd actually prefer that it was mistaken identity. I'm very critical of the world but it's quite pessimistic, even for me, to think that somebody would do this completely at random. (shrug) worse things have happened (shrug)

snigle: nobody around here has ever heard of anything like this. There's practically no crime here, it's a very nice and peaceful suburb. I get the impression that some people I've talked to think that I must've done something to cause this, because this type of thing is blatantly unheard of here. A few people have looked at me like I must be a drug dealer or something- just complete disbelief that this would happen randomly in their perfect little town.

Thats the most awful story Ive ever heard. I hope they castrate these guys once they catch them.

Also, do get the consealed weapons permit. I got mine and I enjoy the feeling of security it gives me. It definitly gives you peace of mind.

Not remembering sux, I got hit by a drunk driver one afternoon and can only vaguely remember leaving my house.

Sounds like a good plan. The "He needed killin'" defense is still a valid legal argument in Texas, I hear...:P

Alright that just sucks. I mean for a beating that bad, you have to wonder what they used.

I know this is going to sound crass, but is there anything about you that would invite random violence. I mean, some people will beat you just because of your race or sexual orientation. You said that you had a GF so its not the later, unless we suddenly have roving bands of violent homosexuals. But seriously, when you hear somethign like this you try to figure out the rationale behind the animals who did this.

Well either way, I hope they find the fockers and make them live with a guy named Bubba who needs his biatches....

On a side note, I know plenty of people who have had blood clots, but they didnt slip too bad. But they are all alive and well, so you should be alright.
