A gigaflop is the number of processes being performed.. and in this case it is per second.... umm as to the magnitude... well replace bite with flop... so like a gigabyte is 1 million bytes, this is 233 million processes per second... so.. pretty darn fast...

217 gigaflops is 217 billion floating pointy operations per second

about 1/4 terraflop :D
