For those of you that have your own domain, how do you keep your whois information private? I just found out that godaddy.com has the option for private registrations for an extra $8 a year.
Is there any other way to accomplish this if you have existing hosting and can't switch?

have you had problems with having your name/addy being publicly accessed and abused due to your whois listing?
just wondering....

I think it is up to who ever you are registered with to provide a service like that. ICANN policies require that the information be public, I believe Godaddy is making it "appear" as though someone else owns the name so they can meet ICANN policies, but you can keep your information private.
I don't think I have ever been solicited off of my information listed in the Whois.

Yes, I have my phone # on my whois record, and i've gotten sales calls for web infrastructure stuff. I have 500MB of hosting, and I would make the content more public if I could be anonymous.

I just put in false info when registering.
