oh my goodness, this is disturbing... i mean, some of the designs are kinda groovy, but i can't get past the grossness of the "paint" she used!!

yeah, those red X's bother me too.

I read her description though. Yeah, to most people that is something disgusting. I for one, don't have any problem with that type of fluid.

It seems somewhat fake. I'm curious as to how the blood is collected. I'm also wondering how it is preserved. Everytime I write a note in blood, it ends up crusty and dark brown.

There are ways (aparently) to preserve blood for more esoteric uses. In the middle ages it was common to sign documents in blood for an oath, and in fact, there was in Constantinopl up to the 11th century a small quantity of blood that was purported to be the blood of Jesus himself. It was used when conducting major treaties with other christian kingdoms. I'm sure it was fraudulent, but the people using it believed it and they preserved it somehow for nearly 1100 year.

Yes but the color. I'm sure that the signatures could be preserved but the color would be brown (I imagine). Or am I an alien. And also what about the colection process. I can slice my finger and bleed for a while into a pool, but that other kind of blood would have to be collected over the periond of (1 day???????) Seems like a bad way to spend your weekend.

read through the forums she has linked... she's inspired a few other artists to make menstual paintings. one girl discusses how she refridgerates it for future use, and uses Instead (a plastic cup-like thing that is an alternative to tampons and pads) to collect it. i'm a bit confused about the color as well, because she has some vivid reds in there... maybe she seals them to preserve the color? (and i'm sure reduce the stink)

Okay a note about "instead". I've never heard of this but I can see why some women would want this seeing as how tampons used to cause toxic shock and there were all sorts of internet gossip. But I'd think you'd be more likely to get sick from this. I imagine bacteria could reproduce like crazy in pure(ish) blood. It seems like if the blood is absorbed and moved away from the body (using the other methods) it would be alot safer.
As to the artist who used the fridge, I'd hate to hear her son complaining that the tomato juice taisted a bit funny.
As to the sealing the paintings, I still think the blood would oxidize and if kept liquid would make the painting slushy. And thanks for bringing up the smell factor. I didn't think of that. You'd be attracting wolves and stuff from 1/4 mile away.

:P I've used them once...and it was the most disgusting experience of my life... because, well, u have to stick it (there's no applicator or nice pull string like with tampons), and then later, when it's terribly messy, pull it out. not a pleasant experience. one of the draws is that supposedly you can have sex with it in (though why anyone would want to is beyond me)

Is it like a diaphram? I'd look it up but I don't want that on my Cache. What material is it made out of? Is it elastic?
I usually have sex right after she gets out of the shower and before she get's her flow on. There are only 2 days when if I do that, LittleInfinite comes out messy.

it's like this rubbery material. So, think a rubber ring about the dimensions of one of those big thick rubber bands, with like, a plastic bag attached... dunno what a diaphram is like, so can't compare. personally, i thought it was rather messy, cause if you didn't put it in just right, it would "spill" out of the cup thingy, and taking it out was just a huge mess. but i guess since the company didn't go bankrupt, some women are having success with it.

I'm no art expert, but she could have finished the drawings with some type of sealant that would prevent it from oxidation (which would turn it brown) and err ... fumes. :|

i'm not that into her paintings. a.) i'm not really a fan of weird abstract stuff and b.) i'd prefer to not see bodily fluids (whether it's seamen, feces, or blood or whatever) slapped up on a canvas.

however, i think that her reasoning behind it is pretty cool. in my opinion, the societal stigma that goes along with menstration is just retarded and has a lot to do with a culture of fear about ones body and an attempt to convince women that their bodies were in some way inferior and needed to be hidden for part of the month.

so if her work helps some women take pride in their bodies and shed the stigma that they feel, then i'm all for it.

Your menstrual blood isn't all blood, there are other fluids. Or, so I read in a biology book in high school. So maybe that is why?

Actually, I heard sex is more pleasurable when you're on your period. Honestly, I'm not much in the mood (except on occasion), but I guess my friend REALLY likes it at that point, and it's not like the guy cares much - he's getting sex.

Are you suggesting you're one of them because I don't really think you "fit" in the category. You're very much not a typical male otherwise we wouldn't be dating. Well...you're not a typical when it comes to those things anyway...we won't get into OTHER matters :P

Chat client = different than java stream. I just figured that a webmaster (your chosen profession) would have the ability to be able to stream the java client, thus providing you with endless hours of more enjoyment.

and if i wanted to "stir the pot" i would have some something to stir the pot, i was just trying to be helpful (heaven for ****ing bid) and offer up a small suggestion. remember, when you assume, you make an ass out of You And Me...

I saw her on the Tonight Show awhile back. If I remember correctly, she sometimes just dips her boobs in the paint (for like the cherries that are one color) or uses a paintbrush and paints her boobs then presses them to the canvas. I dunno

Would it be too personal if I said beginning tomorrow I'll be menstruating :D
..and ewwwwww is right for those paintings, though some were very nice artistically speaking, once I got past the thought of where her "paint" came from.... I still cringed for some reason...
I wonder if she'd purchase from other women? Like Sperm Banks...
I noticed the names of her "paintings"...none of which were named
" The Cramp" :P
I think I'll stick to acrylic's :P
