ok
so i have a 80gig c drive NTFS running xp and on my D is mandrake
im doing a dual boot right now.
i turned my pc off and disconnected the D drive , when i turned it on i saw 10101010 1s and zeros
how can i remove mandrake safely from my D drive?
i just want winxp

yea its a seperate drive
when i take it out i see 101010101 1s and 0's
cant do anything

Try booting from the XP CD.

format /mbr

thats format ->master boot record

Which drive was the primary master and which was the primary slave? whichever one was the master has the important info written to its master boot record. Sounds like that is the one you took out. You sure it was your D:? You could re-install LILO on your drive, that would probably fix it. how exactly to go about it, i couldnt tell you. YOu could also run LILO off of a boot disk, i know lilo has the ability to make boot disks fairly easily.
