Oil is bad and coal is too! So is natural gas! Okay, how about more nuclear power? No, thats bad too. See folks, some want to have their cake and eat it too.

IMO, oil shouldnt control our foreign policy to the extent it does. As liberal as I am, I like nuclear power and I wish we had more nuclear plants around the country, although I'd like to see more safety regulations passed. I think safe nuclear power is teh answer to a lot of of problems.

And yet if gas prices rise a little people scream bloody murder. We want the government to not be pulled by our own selfish desires, but complain like hell when our selfish desires are not met. Do we want politicians, or magicians?

I totally agree, even about nuclear power. I also would like to see more nuclear power regulations.

I believe that the "newly" developed Hybrid industry is hopefully the way to go. More mileage, with extremely clean air, as a after effect. In the future I would like to see a more "green" car, that can go faster than 55mph, AND isn't the ugliest thing in the world. I don't see too many people driving the new Civic's complaining about high gas prices.
Build on top of it, that if you don't like the high gas prices, as far as I know, most cities/suburbs have mass transit. You don't even have to drive your car, and OMG you might have to walk from the transit stop to your place of business, possibly allevating your "pouch"
My family is warm. We know how to put a sweater on. Or plop a blanket ontop, or cuddle up for some "natural heating".
That is all

there's nothing wrong with wanting to keep your house warm. just like there's nothing wrong with wanting cheap gas to get to and from work.
the problem arises, imo, when due to the political pressure of the major energy companies, oil is subsidized, is the focus of a lot of foreign policy, and alternative forms are energy are given short shrift because they might harm the profit margins of the oil companies.
i have no problem with what they oil companies are doing....they are behaving in a rational manner, trying to preserve their business. however, they have too much political clout (due to the $$$$ they put into political campaigns), and what is rational business for the oil companies isn't necessarily rational policy for the nation as a whole
