My wife and I got up at 5:30 (in the cold) and saw tons, some of them were the best I have ever seen, leaving tails that appeared for close to 30 seconds.

We saw lots of meteors last night, with some lasting for a fairly long time across a large portion of the sky. However, the moon was a big problem here.
It was so bright out that I could see the bottom of the pool and the bone lying there with no outside lights on. So we had just turned our back on the moon and craned our necks up. Hurt after a while, but it was worth it. I figured since the next time it would be at this intensity was 2097 it was probably worth the discomfort and cold.

dang it...why didn't anyone tell me?? aaarrrgghh...another great photo op gone. oh well, i guess i'll have to wait till the next one...in like 75 years.
I was supposed to go to Joshua Tree park to watch it but instead just looked outside the house. Ya you're right though tweets LA is too bright for viewing such an event.

heheh. more like 97. scientists are estimating that another meteor shower of this brilliance probably won't come back until 2099.

took my camera out to get some shots of these buggers. even got pulled over on the way up the hill (palos verdes). surprisingly, the sheriff was kind enough to just let me go with warning,... :D
blew through 3 rolls of film,... hopefully i caught something on film.
and you never know,... they said last year was going to the biggest ones for a long time,... and then changed their mind when this year rolled around. those nasa/jpl people even admitted it on their own web site that their "predictions" were highly unreliable. go figure,...
