Nintendo has just announce the soon to be coming Game Boy Player! Coming to the US in May of 2003, the GBP will connect to the bottom of you Game Cube and allow you to play your GBA games right off your GC! Very nice indeed! This takes us back to the day when the old SNES had come out with the Super Game Boy which allowed you to play the old Game Boy games in color for the first time (and you got to choose your color set up!)

No price has yet been announced but I'm guessing something like this would be between $29.99 and $49.99 just knowing Nintendo's history with pricing. The Super Game Boy was $39.99 when it came out and it was just a cartridge to stick in the SNES. This GBP is a whole new base for your GC! SO I'm sure the price tag will be up there a bit at first.

Check out the press release here... (http://www.nintendo.com/news/news_articles.jsp?articleID=7687)

Penny Arcade had a good joke about this news announcement... http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3

They also make a good point on their home page. With the announcement of this player, this does kind of kill the rumors for the so called GBA 2 with the back lit screen, six buttons, flip top cover, coffee maker and whatever the heck else they said was going in it. Selling a new GBA unit wouldn't go over as big if they release the GBP. So I'm a thinkin that at this point the big rumor is just that...all rumor.

Cool...I wonder if it looks as bad as the TV hookup for the GBA. I have that and the quality is worse than NES.

Hmmm...Puzzle Fighter on GC would be cool though.
