It's that time of year again folks..DEER HUNTING SEASON!
:)
Tomorrow I will be tagging along with my brothers on our 2002 BIG BUCK hunt!- Although I won't be shooting tomorrow since I'm still in a cast,I'll be back at the cabin, grillin up the ham, bacon, pancakes, coffee and stew for bro's...Now if we only had a halfway decent amount of snow (ours melted)..life would be grand!

How many here like venison? Personally, I don't care for the stuff..the few times I bagged a doe in the past,I've given the meat over to my brothers who go nuts over it. Now BEAR MEAT..mmmmmmmmm that is some sweeeeet talkin beef.

I prefer elk over venison. Deer jerky is very tasty though.

Bambi makes for really good eats in my book. Hell, I eat just about anything that once walked, crawled, or flew. Yeah for carnivores!

the best bear meat I ever had was slow cooked with some burgandy/mushroom gravy for hours and hours..it literally fell apart when you tried to serve it..which of course was served over buttery mashed potatoes..and I'm not much of a potato person..but let me tell ya..that sh{t was good eatin. :)

For those of you who haven't tried elk, it's AWESOME. It's got the more flavor than beef, but doesn't tend to be dry or "gamey" like venison can be (although most of that is in how you field dress/age/process the meat). Not to mention the fact that with elk you can easily get 500lbs of processed meat from a single animal...Got|chest freezer?

3 buck..
1 5 point (about 180 lbs)
1 6 point (about 140 lbs)
1 5 point (about 160 lbs)

this is before field dressings of course-and weighed with a hook scale/pulley/counterweight thingamabob..

They were some beautiful animals..nice thick coats-it's gonna be a longggg longgggggg winter by the looks of it..anyway..the Bro's are happy, they were frozen and famished by the time they got back in to the cabin..they are staying there tonight-I came home because I have to work tomorrow..all in all it was a good day..ps..I only lost 25 bucks on the after dinner card games. :) I left them with a pot of stew for tomorrow, some apple betty, a filled coffee filter, and a nice bottle of chianti.. :)

Venison is great. Speaking of Elk...did anyone else see the Fear Factor episode when they ate the animal members (if you know what I mean).
