had an ongoing debate with a friend of mine about this. It basically began with me saying, and I quote "i think its tougher being a QB than a hockey player".
Then this went on to a discussing that RB is tougher because they get hit more. Which i disagreed.

So what is your take?

hmmmm.... i dunno bout that... kind of a hard thing to argue...

but i do remember, when i was in high school, it was mutually agreed that the wrestlers trained the hardest...

I don't think either is tougher or easier. It all depends on what you find easier to do. Some people can take physical punishment better than others. Some people can meet the mental requirements more easily. IMO, the difficulty is more dependent on the person than on the position.

I think the QB takes the most punishment since the others get to brace themselves more before getting hit. Many times the QB is wide open when the shot comes. But keep in mind, the QB only plays a few games a year. The hockey player gets knocked around over 80 times.

True, but hockey players don't have linemen that are 200-300 pounds landing on them.
Now personally, I don't feel that just because you get hit, it's considered a tougher sport. I personally feel its harder being a QB because you have to to watch for 4-7 guys rushing at you from all directions while you try to make the perfect pass to your receiver.

i would argue that being a QB is probably the most difficult position in any sport.

1.) you have to know hundreds of offensive plays, be able to rapidly read dozens of defensive fronts, and rapidly adjust your playcalling to respond to the defensive alignment.

2.) because of the way plays are run, you can't just hold off and hope for the best (ie a point guard backing up near halfcourt and dribbling while waiting for the play to develop). if a QB does that, they're going to get flattened.

3.) mistakes are magnified because of scoring in football. if a hockey player misdirects one pass, chances are, it's not going to give the opposition 7 points. most times, it won't even yield a good shot on goal. but if a QB screws up a pass a little bit, it can easily be run back for a touchdown, and touchdowns are hard to come by in most football games.

there are other reasons too, but i think you get the idea....

If you want to talk in terms of taking a beating (and giving one out), try rugby. I was a prop for many years and it truly takes its toll. Along the same thinking, offensive and defensive linemen in football take more punishment than QBs or RBs. Every play is a collision.

golf, the person playing it. you dont get hit but do u know how hard it is to play golf? i wonder why they get paid so much for hitting the ball in the hole. :). you really need the mental capacity for it!
