512RAM reading at 480!!?

I have 2 sticks of Kingston 256 pc2100 ram. When i had just one installed, it read it at 256. I just installed a new stick and now it reads as 480?? In bios, it says that installed memory is 512 but when i go into the properties of My Computer, it says that i have 480MB of ram. Anyone know why and how i can fix it? Thanks.

do you by chance have an integrated 32meg graphics card on your motherboard? if so, thats where those 32megs went, the card uses system memory for it....if you don't have integrated graphics, i dont know what to tell ya :)

ohhhhhhhhhhh...... no wonder my friends laptop says he has less ram than installed.
