I meant...honestly. There is this guy at school who is Vice President of ASG, and I'm a Senator. At the beginning of the year he was normal, but then the lies started...liked he worked for Marvel (btw, according to him he designed the Spiderman DVD) and Activision, plus he worked at Toys'r'us of all places. Now we've seen him work at Toys'r'us, but his offices in Glendale for Activision don't seem to exist....hmmmm

But enough of that...why do people lie? Is society so horrible that people must life to be excepted?? What is the world coming to?

Not smart of the dip to lie about stuff that is easily verifiable. He's lying to make himself oh so important. :pfft:

What is wrong with working at Toys R Us???

And I honestly think that sometimes people just don't know how to tell the truth....

I really like catching people in a lie! It's a whole lot of fun to see their faces go completely blank when they realize that they've been caught. :D

From what I hear, it was really funny watching him squirm when they confronted him about the fact that there is no Activision building in Glendale.

Although I think ShortStack should share the X-Box story with all of you. :)

I guess people lie about stupid things because of some bad self image or sum'n. I really don't understand it much either, I've got a cousin who lies or embellishes about anything. For example...every job he has no matter the type of field, he is always supposidly a manager or supervisor yet he always leaves after a couple of weeks or months. I mean come on, if I was making the kind of money he claims what would be so bad. No wonder he is still at home w/ mommy at 28.

Two reasons:

(1) Insecurity.
(2) Inability to take responsibility.

because of their own self-interest. if they can benefit from it, go ahead. though i don't agree.

Two reasons:

1) Because they can
2) They can't, but are just too stupid to know better.

My idea:
To Compensate for a deficiency. Starts in the teen years.

Corsec mentioned the X-box story. This guy helped plan an event for our ASG early this last semester, and because he works for Activision, he decided he was going to raffle off an X-box. Well, he in fact doesn't work there...or so we still say, he still denies it! He still claims to work there. Anyway, well...he raffled off something we didn't have! And here we are a student organization who could get sued. And worse than that, the guy who won it was on the school newspaper. I think it took almost 3 months for the poor guy to get the X-box, but how stupid do you have to be to raffle off something you KNOW you can't get?

I've lied and gotten caught in it...I mainly use them as threats...to make my position stronger than it is...ie with more ammo, or better entrenched than I am...But recently its been because i've been lied to so its kind of a battle. I've admitted lying, and now it seems to help cloud the water when I do try and tell the truth...hard to stop lying and trying to catch other ppl, but... i prefer to snoop ;)

I think it all boils down to "fear"...Right, wrong or indifferent..everyone does it at one point in their lives...to what extent is another question...and to whom...and why.
To fear rejection...to fear not being accepted (same?)...Most times, people I imagine lie so they won't hurt others...some lie out of embarrasment...some lie because it just comes natural...
Lieing isn't good, obviously...but sometimes necessary depending on the circumstances...hard to believe but true...and thats my two cents... :P

Why people lie??

Sometimes it might be necessary to lie... certain occasions make it so that you kinna have to lie... like the guy up there.. he kinna had to do it because he wanted "face" and he wanted to make a better reputation of himself...

I sometimes have to lie so I can find info.. kinna like a spy.. so thats another purpose...

LIE FOR THE GREATHER GOOD?
