this is the kind of "research" that people (possibly very credible people, possibly not) do on their own time, unfunded... newspapers love to publish them, often without doing a very good job of citing the source or the method used to come up with the figures. they are thought experiments usually, sometimes based on survey evidence, sometimes not... very broad mathematical estimates that could be reasonably accurate, if the person doing the calculations has taken enough variables into account (like the one about how many bugs you eat nocturnally i know to be hopelessly flawed)

that said, they're still a lot of fun :D

While I agree that these types of data are almost always guesstimations at best, I can see some of this stuff being useful from a public health point of view. Although I really doubt the data because of that female/male masterbation thing... maybe I'm being sexist, but that just doesn't sound right to me...

i'd say any "data" about female masturbation is useless... women are so unlikely to be truthful about their masturbation habits, and self-reporting surveys are the only way to collect such data.

i've never had any hang-ups talking about it, either, but most do... there are actually girls out there who have just never figured out a way to masturbate, but most girls who say they don't are lying. and i can't blame them... girl culture can be so effed up that it speaking freely about it can earn you more shizzle than you're willing to take.

Actually, I don't like the way "snapping a bean" sounds. Sounds painful. Well like they say above, girls are less likely to admit it so somehow that statistic could be wrong. But also, if you think about it...girls masturbating isn't always as messy so I hope guys would wash hands more because otherwise, that's plain gross.
