Guys (and gals), I just need to transfer stuff from my old comp to my new one and keep doing it. I dont want to share an internet connection or anything. I already have ethernet on both comps, what do i need now, Any specific cables or software?
Sorry if this was really newbieish  , but im really weak when it comes to networking, everything else im fine with!
Thanks
Simple crossover cable will do.

What do u mean by crossover cable, is it the usual telephone cable, can plz give me a link to whereever its sold? Thanks!
I can provide you with some help if you need. However, what Operating systems are on each machine is the first question?

A crossover cable is like a regular cat 5 networking cable except the wires are switched around so that you can just setup a simple network between the two computers. Most computer places should have it. Just make sure it says crossover somewhere on the packaging.

Both computers have xp home edition on them, the old one also has 98SE on it. 1 more thing im concerned about, i went to CC right after I saw spigidygak's post, i see something like male-male and stuff like that. what does it all mean?
And Corsec, newbiesh, but both the sockets in my 2 comps look the same, ie a little bigger than a regular phone line socket.

You wont use regular telephone line. You will have to use Networking Cable.(Cat 5) You have to purchase a "CAT 5 Crossover Cable". Just about all computer stores sell them.
Male - Male is talking about the type of connector on the end of the cable. Male connectors fit inside female connectors. Get it?
Link to a Vendor (http://www.cat-5-cable-company.com/cat-5-crossover-cable.shtml)
You can find this where you live. I wanted you to see what we were talking about. Print that page and take it to the nearest computer store. Show it to them and say "I want to buy one of these". They will fix you right up.
After you get the cable connect the 2 computers with the crossover cable and run the network wizard in XP. Then right click on the drive or folder you want to grant access to and select share files/folders or something along those lines. Do this to both PC's. You shouldnt have any problems.
If you go somewhere like BB where you may encounter poor service, (Especally at Christmas time) make sure you stress that it is a CROSSOVER cable that you need. Most of the cables there are NOT crossovers, check the packaging yourself.
