My Lite on 48x isnt burning cds. I get a different error when I try DAO/96, DAO or TAO. Usually it says, "invalid writestate" and other times it just says "burn process failed." I'm using Nero by the way. Any ideas?

Is that uhm. . . a legit copy . . . or just a copy :hehehmm: but what kind of disc are you trying to burn? Also, does the drive read discs? Might want to make sure you got the ide ids right and the cable plugged in. Usually always the stupid crap that stops you, heeh.

Suprisingly, the Nero is legit, came with burner. I'm going to check teh jumper settings. I forget whether the burner should be master or slave, I suppose it depends on how the DVD rom is set...

Yeah the jumpers could be the problem then. . . also if you got the dvd and cd on the same ide line, make sure you got "justlink" enabled.

What is "justlink?"

he means smart burn, but that's enabled by default. Double check to make sure the drive is running in DMA mode, and then reflash the CDRW bios, because it sounds almost like it's corrupt.

Possibly your ASPI layer is totally hosed up too. Make sure you update Nero to the most current version, which comes with Neros aspi layer.

The exact message goes like this...

"SCSI/IDE Command Aborted"
"Invalid Writestate"
"Could not preform end track."

The burner loads up the buffer to 100% then the message comes up before it burns. I flashed the firmware and even got the new firmware and same problem. I figure its not the jumpers, because windows sees the drive and it reads cds fine. I'm getting the newest nero so hopefully that does the trick...

also, make sure your firmware is fully upgraded. My brother's Plextor wouldnt burn, either in Nero or in WindowsXP Explorer. Upgrading to the latest firmware fixed the problem.

After doing literally everything, (firmware, jumper settings, etc) nothing works. I went ot Lite-On's website which does not contain a tech support email address or a phone number for me to call. Since there is absolutely nothing I can do, I am forced to send this drive back and order a drive from a competitor.

try burning a CD with Smart Burn disabled because for some strange reason a similar problem happened to my friend's burner that's supposed to support smart burn, but when it's enabled it causes the burning program (all different programs) to stop somewhere in the cd and give him similar errors that you are getting. If that doesn't work, it's probly a crap drive.
