i am sitting in my computer room and looking at my lizards tank. The heat bulb is on, and it just amazes me. Its a bulb that looks like a normal light bulb but its colored black. Its not a black light, but instead gives off a really faint purple glow. Its only noticable if you look at the bulb. I have some that are the same way, but with a slight red light being emitted when they are on. Its really cool. I am curious on what they use to make the bulb give off so little light.

Its just a special black phosphorus coating on the inside of the bulb

It shouldn't give off too much heat though. Infrared bulbs work much better as heaters.
