Hey Everyone,

Here is my problem.I have an AMD Athlon 2100+ and when my system is running idle my cpu temp is 125F . My system temp is 90F.... isn't this too hot? I have the standard fan that came with the cpu and I have 2 fans in the rear of the case( one blowing in and one blowing out) Do you guys think these temps are too high and if so what would you suggest I do to cool the cpu ( if needed)

Thanks in advance for you help

Those temperatures are a little on the high side but well within the specified operating range (anything less than 55-60C is still reasonable, but I like to get the temperatures in the 35-45C range).

One thing that you might want to consider is an intake fan at the bottom of the front of your case and an exhaust fan at the top of the rear side. Your current configuration does not allow for adequate ambient air to circulate past the CPU.

125F=51.6C
90F=32.3C

System temp is fine. coleslaw's suggestion for proper airflow is good.

CPU temp is on the high side. You may want to get a better cooler for your cpu like one of the Thermalright ones (http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/prime/browse/component/78.htm) {SLK800 is my current favorite} or Thermaltake Volcano 9 (http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/35/cat35.htm?563).

hi
i have an xp 2100+ and my idle temp is 29c and gaming is 47c
i have a volcano 7+
try softrware like vcool and cpuidle this brings temps down by 10 degrees celcius

seems high when vewed in degrees F, but they are actually ok. if you want to try to knock off a few degrees do what coleslaw said. The cooler the better as long as no condensation builds up

You should put the blow-in fan in front instead of in the rear!

Hey Guys

:D thanks for all your help... i just got done playing 2 hours of Half life and my system temp is 38C(100F) and my cpu temp was 58C(137F).

I am going to get the volcano fan for the cpu . I also didn't mention that i have a neon light inside , don't know if that will cause a huge difference in temp...and i also have lights on my case fans as well(wich only run @ 2,500 rpm).... I want to get better ventilation in my case but the way it is designed I can't put a fan in the front...i am putting a link to my case to see if you guys can give me some ideas....

here is a link for my case but in the pic they have a fan in the window and mine is just a window ...no fan or fan cut out.

thanks again

You should do a cut out on your window for a side fan (blow-in). It will reduce the temperature greatly!

yeah i really wanted to leave that as my last option..... do you think those fans that i have are too slow at 2,500 rpms? also if i dont do the side fan and get the volcano fan for the cpu do you think that will be enough?

thanks for your help by the way ;)

Buy a small fan at Target, open the side of the computer up, point the fan at the side of the computer....wala! Cooler computer! :D

I'm actually seriously telling you to do this...I'm doing this on my computer right now, and it's keeping my computer cool and my CPU a bit cooler.

yeah I was thinking of that too but I have a dog and I smoke and don't wanna get alot of dust and dog hair in the pc ya know.... if I get the volcan fan for the cpu how much do you think that will cool it off......I think I am also going to move both my cdr and dvd drives up one notch and try to somehow put another fan in the front ...with out screw'n my case up

thanks again

Try spacing out your CD drives too.. don't have one right on top of the other.. since you have the room... This probably won't lower your temps, but it will save your CD drives from damaging eachother from the heat they put out..

The best thing you could probably do is to put a fan in the window and one in the front blowing in.. there should be a slot inside the case for one.. if not.. cut one =0)

yeah as of right now I have my drives spaced but in order to make a cut out in the front I have to put them together... and I really don't wanna do a fan in the window....do you think the Volcano fan for the cpu will help a great deal?

thanks again

Being as the volcano has 2 speed settings, it all depends on if you mind the sound or not.. running at low speeds (1300rpm) it's pretty quiet, but doesn't cool well at all.. you turn it up to high speed (4800rpm) and it cools reletively well (I have my 2000xp running at 42 degrees.. (full load).. but it was pretty loud.. have you also though about a fan on the top of the computer.. I have an exhaust fan on the top (heat rises) and my case temp is always cool..

Linky to my case (http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/cas-02.html)

I have the 2 fan on the side model, which blows directly on my video card and cpu for even more cooling.. My case works well for what I do (or don't do) with my computer.. heh.

yeah your case looks cool as hell bro

Ya see the stock fan that came with the cpu .. I think running at 4,500 or so ..... if the Volcano runs at 4,800 rpm should I even bother getting it?

The other thing that sux is the fans I have in the back are only running at 2,500rpm's..... I had other fans but everytime I ran my pc it sounded like a god damn 747 was in the room

I dunno maybe I should just move to Iceland lol !!!

That's basically what the volcano sounds like on full speed.. and if you look at the actual fan and heat sink, you will see.. the thing is HUGE!!! it's the size of a case fan, instead of on of the smaller fans, meaning more RPM more air being pushed through.. I would recommend the fan (though there are better ones out there, but they are even more expensive)

I'd say it's good for the price, but I believe if you have the ECS K75SA or whatever it was, they run hot or the diode that mesures the temp isn't right or something.. my friend has the ecs, and an xp2100 and it seems to run alot hotter than it should be.. but, I haven't sat there and tried to completely troubleshoot it.. who knows.. better to spend 20 bux on a new heatsink and fan, than 120 on a new processor heh.. (unless you get it from fry's and break it within the first 15 days.. gotta love liberal return policies)

Anyways, good luck.. let us know what you decide to do.

I'd recommend using a Vantec Aeroflow before i would a POS Volcano 9... The only thing that saves the V9 is the 75cfm adjustable fan on it. And at full speed its loud. Tolerable but loud. Sounds like your case has some poor ventilation definately do the fans like others have suggested.
