Hey,

I have an ECS K7S5A Socket A Motherboard. With an AMD Athlon XP2100+ cpu...... I was reading the manual that came with the board and it says it supports Athlon XP:1500+~2000+,FSB:266Mhz.... does this mean the board is no good for the cpu I am currently using?

Last night I was on and downloading like 15 things from Kazaa and tried to play a song in Winamp and use a visual plugin(milk drop) and it was running so slow and choppy.Even when I wasn't using Winamp, just had Kazaa running and went to click on My Computer the window took like 20 seconds to open...wtf
I am going to list my system details down here ....if anyone could help I would appreciate it. ;)

Motherboard: ECS K7S5A
CPU: Athlon XP2100+
Memory: 256Mb SDR
Hard drive1: Western Digital 40GB(7,200rpm)
Hard drive2: Western Digital 120GB(7,200rpm)
Video card: Geforece 2 64MB
Power supply: 300W;)

I have a question.. run your system at full load for like 5 minutes, then reboot, go into your bios and check your temp, then post it.. my friend has the same board/proc and has pretty high temps (in my eyes), but he has adaquate cooling, so I haven't been able to tell if it is his HSF, or just the mobo..

I'm assuming you got this mobo/proc at fry's during their deal.. check your boot up screen and see if it states that you are running a 2100, then make sure you have your FSB and ram settings running at optimal level (if you are running DDR, both should be 133/133..) if you didn't set this on start up, it will state 100/100 and you can set it to 100/133, but just set it to 133/133 (as long as your ram will handle it..)

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.. I was NOT impressed with this board, and would pretty much try to steer everyone away from it, but for what most people would use it for it is fine i guess... My friend had to take his mobo/proc back to fry's 6 times before he got a combo that ran stable..

Hope this helped at all..

Yeah that did help alot...as far as in bios yes it is running at 2100(which) I had to change from 1500 ...and it is now 133/133.

How do I make my system run at full load ?

Do you think it was anything to do with the fact the board says it supports Athlon XP:1500+~2000+,FSB:266Mhz.......and mine is 2100+

As far as temps go.... I made a post the other day and think my temps are also high... I didn't build the Pc, my friend did...( who I am no longer talking to..so I'm pretty much on my own & learning as I go)

thanks again

You were doing an awful lot of stuff and you only have 256 megs of ram. You should look into getting 256 more to make things go a lot smoother.

and i could download songs , play winamp and pug ins and had no slugishness.... I dunno kinda weird
