Basically, the FCC wants your input on mandating copy protection in digital television receivers. A "broadcast flag" could be sent across the signal telling your VCR, PVR, DVD-R etc. not to record certain content or not allow it to be copied. You may not have digital TV today, but by the end of this decade you will if the FCC has its way, so this WILL affect you some day if you watch TV.
DigitalConsumer.org (http://digitalconsumer.org) has a form that you can fill out that will send your comments about this plan (or you can use a pre-written letter provided by them) to the FCC. The deadline is Friday, Dec. 6th so if you want to help, do so soon. Follow this link (http://www.digitalconsumer.org/bcastflag/fcccomment.html) to go directly to the form.
All I know is that when I miss an episode of my favorite TV show, I like the fact that my friend who has recorded it on his TiVo can send me the file or burn a copy for me. I would hate to lose that ability.
Note: This is not one of those "online petitions" which are generally useless, your comments will actually go to the FCC.
