Is it possible to install like an Asus mobo into HP computers? More specifically, an HP pavilion 8565c ?
I want to upgrade my gf's comp (she's still back in 500mhz) but she likes the case a lot =T so I hope it's a yes answer. =)
Thanks in advance.

if you replace the mobo you remove most of what makes it an hp in the first place. if there are any removable components such as modem, sound card video card, network card or anything else you will have to make sure drivers are available. sometimes those components are dependant on the mobo so you will have to replace them. any components on the hp board (the graphics and sound are probably on board) will need to be replaced whether its onboard or separate.
you also have to make sure that the holes on the new board match the ones in the old case. if they dont you will have to drill new holes. the panel from the back where all the connections go also have to match up the new board otherwise you will need to remove or cut out the old panel and replace it.
chances are that it wont work, there are many things that need to match up and manufacturers like hp or compaq often build thier cases to fit only thier boards. this saves them money. so unless you are willing to do some cutting and drilling into the metal it probably wont work. there are some sites with affordable (under $40) cases which your gf might like, check those out. the only one i could think of off hand is www.colorcases.com but there are others
Even if it doesn't fit, you can still do it if you have the determination and the skills. I've seen a PC in an Apple Powermac case, so anything is possible.
