Just looking for opinions here.
I have an:
amd athlon xp 1600
512 ddr ram 266mhz, 133 fsb
gf4 ti4600

I'm a gamer and I want to make the most out of my machine before the next real upgrade.

Is is worth it to upgrade the process to 2100+ ?
Performance gain versus the cost.
Any opinions here?

I don't think so, the only noticable proformance gain will probably be in video encoding.

Personally, I'd like a bigger leap in performance. But heck AthlonXP's are so cheap now. :D

I don't know about this, it depends how much you're willing to spend. Its only about 330MHz more so performance I'd say would be marginal still. Looking at pricewatch looks like you'd be lucky to get $30 for the 1600 and spend about $95 or so on the 2100, so its really personal choice is it worth ~$65 for a 330MHz upgrade? Personaly I'd wait to get a faster chip.

It really isn'tworth the jump right now. Won't see much noticeable difference as it is. A 2400 or 2600+ you'd see a difference. just overclock the chip you have now 200-300 mhz and there's your small upgrade :)

2100 + soyo dragon lite board = $140 at Frys.

Not bad if you need a mobo and chip.

BTW, what 1600 chip and what mobo do you have? It's because the AGOIA/ AROIA(?) chips are easily oced to 2000+ speeds.

I don't think it worths to upgrade! I would save the $$$ and get something else within a year or so (Hammer or Barton)! :D
