Hey,

Just wanted to get some feedback on this fan here
http://www.xoxide.com/therdragorb31.html

I wanted to know if anyone has it and do you guys think this thing is going to be super loud with it's 7,000 rpm's?

Also I have an Athlon 2100+ . The fan says it can be used for AXP 2000+, 1900+, 1800+, 1700+, 1600+, 1500+ INTEL PIII 1.13GHz & TUALATIN up to 2.0GHz

I am thinking this fan should be ok for the 2100+...what do you guys think?
thanks

Orbs are the worst kind of coolers out there... get a decent heatsink.. just like sbp said... or one of the thermalrights :D

I agree with the get a thermalright w/ a slower rpm fan.

7000 rpm is going to be REALLY loud.

Don't be too scared to get 7K rpm's. I run the Thermaltake 6cu w/ the 7K and it isn't too loud. Don't get me wrong, you definitely notice it, but it sounds pretty cool like a jet motor or sum'n.

Believe you me....I've had this delta of mine for a while now...I'm getting really tired of it. That's why I'm about to get a new heatsink/fan combo.

I hear ya...that's why I got rid of my 60mm Delta and got a 60 to 80mm adapter and a Vantec fan...I know the adapters are inefficient, but my heatsink is good enough that I didn't notice any increase in temperatures, yet my noise level dropped a bunch.

Spend the money and get a HSF that cools well withough wrecking you hearing. Volcano 7 and 9 both use 80mm fans and are reasonably priced...

If you feel really adventurous and want to enjoy silence, you can go the watercooling route like me. :D

Yeah I was actually thinking about that but that costs alot no? Also does it realy make a huge difference as far as cooling goes, compared to fans ?

thanks

Dragon Orbs are FINE coolers. Don't listen to these people. I own 2 of them and they cool fine. However, I wouldn't get it for a 2100, If it's not rated for it, then I wouldn't risk it. Find something that says its rated for for a 2100+. As far as 7200 RPM fans, try to stay away from them. I have one at my parents house for a computer I built for my mom and we've nicknamed it the Hoover because it sounds like a vacuum is constantly going upstairs.

Hoover huh LMAO :bigmouth:

That's what mine used to sound like :P
I dunno, I'm gonna reconfigure the drivers and add 2 in the front blowing in and take the 2 in back and have them blowing out... Hopfully that should do the trick ;) ......if not...wellllll I dunno :bawl:

Thanks

I run a variant of the Innovatek cooling system - I have an Innovatek block, an Eheim 1048 pump, an Innovatek reservoir, and a 35lb solid copper BEAST (aka a radiator) that was originally supposed to be an oil-coller for an 80kw generator and is now keeping my XP1800 nice and cool at around 32C at over 1800Mhz (over 300Mhz overclocked). My watercooling system is very quiet and allows me to cool my processor at a more continuous level versus a heatsink/fan combination.

My total system costs were this:

100% copper block: $32 on Ebay
Eheim pump: $28 on Ebay ($10 below cost - the guy who sold it to me was pissed that the auction didn't go higher)
Reservior: $16 from an Innovatek supplier
10mm Tubing: $10 from Home Depot
Misc hardware: $30 from various sources
XP unlocking kit: $15 from the same Innovatek supplier
35lb Copper Radiator:$38 on Ebay (incl shipping! great deal!)
Other hardware costs:$30 (jigsaw blades, Dremel bits, etc)

Total watercooling Costs: $199 (good estimate - and I can adapt this to any future processor too) :D

Value of sitting in my office without having to shout to my wife sitting next to me due to the windtunnel-effect of all the fans on my system: $priceless
