If you call 1-800-947-0684 you can get 5,000 Delta Sky Miles (1/5 of a free ticket r/t anywhere in the US) for switching long-distance to MCI. These come in at 1,000 /month for 5 months. They pay the $10 fee to switch and you get $0.05/minute evenings and weekends and $0.07/minute day-time calls.

You also get 5 miles for every $1 you spend on your long-distance from Delta and you can up that to 7 miles/$1 if you put your bill directly on your Amex Delta Sky Miles Card. If you don't have one of these already you can sign up for them and get the gold card for $80 but that will give you another 10,000 flier miles to start. Thats a total investment of $80 for 15,000 miles, not bad at all.

This is the 4th time I've switched to MCI to AT&T and back in the past few years and I've earned in excess of 35,000 miles by going to MCI (They used to give you 10,000 for switching, staying, putting on your cell phone long distance and using their calling cards). Then AT&T calls up a few months later and offers me a $25 GC to Ultimate Electronics or somewhere else to switch back and they pay.

I now have 67,500 Delta Sky miles and I've only flown with them a COUPLE of times. As long as you fly with them every three years you keep all your points (they NEVER expire). I put EVERYTHING on my Delta Skymiles Credit Card and pay it off every month, so that another 500-1,500 miles per month (1 miles per dollar charged.

Hope this helps someone.
