Hey All,
I first wanna say I thank all of you for helping with my previous posts. I don't really know that much as far as the technical side of troubleshooting pc problems ( but I'm learning ).
Here is one of my many problems with my pc.( that an exfriend put together...who was supposed to know what he was doing  )
I have an Athlon 2100+ and the motherboard is an ECS K7S5A Socket A.Every once in a while when my pc starts up it will say it is running at 1500 and I have to go into BIOS and change it. I was reading the manual that came with the board and it says it supports Athlon XP:1500+~2000+,FSB:266Mhz.... does this mean the board is no good for the cpu I am currently using?
Has anyone had this same problem or does anyone know why this could be happening
Also almost everytime the computer doesn't recognize my keyboard and I have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in.Then it works
ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED :D AND NEEDED :bawl:

When you exit the BIOS do you save the changes? I know a stupid question but just to make sure. Read the manual again...maybe I'm an idiot but do you have to set up any special jumpers? You shouldn't but read the manual again or go to the motherboard mfg website.

Yeah I save the settings in BIOS before I exit..... I have to look more in depth as far as the jumpers go.....Why what would the jumpers do and what are they used for?

Do you have the latest BIOS?

My board does something similar on overclocks. (P41.6A) It won't start with a front-side-bus of more than 134 MHz. Once I let it start and then reboot, I can bump it to more than 145. I've played around with a lot of things (mostly voltages and timing) and I my problem appears to be the memory not getting enough voltage upon cold start. You may have the same issue with your cpu-try bumping the voltage a bit and see if that helps.

In BIOS check the bios version. Then check the manufacturers website and see if its the latest. Chances are, if your answer is "i dont know" or "how do I tell?" you don't hav ethe latest bios.

yeah I'm gonna check..and just because my answer was " I dont know or how do I tell, doesn't mean they aren't up to date" The pc was just put together about 2 months ago by somebody who knows alot more than most... it's just that I dont talk to that person anymore..and I'm not that great with BIOS ;)
thanks :D

The pc may be 2 months old but the cd that comes packaged with the mobo that has the bios on it may be like 12 months old.

What mcs said.
Check your motherboard to see if there are any jumpers that address the clock speed. A friend had a similar issue with an MSI motherboard and that's what fixed it.

ECS WEBSITE (http://www.ecsusa.com/products/k7s5a.html)
PROCESSORS
462 pin Socket A supports the AMD® K7 processors
• Full series of Athlon XP / Athlon / Duron processors
This would leave me to believe that the bios your running currently isnt the latest version. Flash your bios with the most current version and your problem should be fixed.
Update. I found this in the bios update HERE (http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/k7s5a.html).
12/04/01 AMI® BIOS. Support AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU 419KB
09/09/02 Award® BIOS. Support AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and 2600+ CPU 45

Just download and upgrade to the latest BIOS (09/09/02). The latest BIOS allows your motherboard to support up to AXP 2400+ so your CPU is okay!

These board are notorious for this.. they drop bios settings. almost as if the bios battery had died.. My theory is that these boards are after creating the boards, they went to 99centstore.com and bought 10,000 bios batteries for 99 cents..
seriously though.. this board and processor came from the recent Fry's deal.. I can tell.. I have 2 friends who got in on this deal and are going through the exact same stuff.. me being the wonderful friend that I am have wiped my hands of the whole deal and said.. "if you want me to help you with your computer, quit being cheap and go buy a new motherboard.." But, do they?!?! nope.. oh well.. hehe my suggestion is.. Sell this board on Ebay.. save face and go buy a new mobo.. making sure you get one of good brand and quality..
