Ok, so on Black Friday, I picked up one of those I/O Magic 48X burners from Circuit City...the one that after rebates is $20. So I have been sitting there debating about whether or not to keep the drive. All of my systmes already have burners in them.

On top of that my current desktop has very quickly become archaic, and we are planning on just buying another system shortly. Now since I have been lazy on building systems recently, mostly because I'd rather point the finger at someone else, I will probably just pick up another Dell. I could just keep it and put it in whatever I buy....but I will probably putting in a dvd burner in it instead.

So, I am left here hemming and hawing about keeping the drive. I mean, hell its only $20 after the rebates...but do I really need it. The only thing I could really do with it, is take out an 12x burner in my 500 mhz desktop and throw that one into my my sisters ancient machine.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Scope the drive for audio extraction and DAO96 and other features using CloneCD and Nero. Better features...keep it, unless you have a friend/family that needs one.

I'd keep it. Its cheap enough and you never know when it will come in handy down the road.

Give it to your sister for christmas, or a friend that can use it, include a note saying you will install it for them (if they are not a techie). It would make a nice gift, and you don't really need it. It would make a good emergency gift too. Wrap it and keep it on hand just in case someone gives you a gift you were not expecting one from them.

Give it as a gift to someone who knows nothing about computers. Then take the gift back in disgust becuase they weren't happy to receive.

Well, maybe not. ;)

No, I'd say switch it with the 12x. 3 minute burns are quite nice. :)
