this is for all the ladies, but gents, if you have some feedback, pls feel free to contribute.
i want to do something "romantic" for my gf. i'd like to make a gift. any ideas? what do you ladies find romantic, (either it's been given to you, or it was given to someone else, and you wished it was given to you).
Maybe you could make her a scrapbook of memories from your relationship? Do you have pictures, movie stubs, etc that you could put together?
Good luck, hopefully someone will have some better advice. I've been married so long I've forgotten what romance is! ;)

Probably already been done 20 billion times, but I find that girls like it if you cook for them. Make something really fancy and make a big deal about making it really sappy (low lights, tablecloths, candles, etc...). The other thing is to send her a sonnet via e-mail (I did it with outlook) where you put it in a real cutsy paper design, with really fancy fonts and set it up to play a .wav of a really sappy song (or better yet, her favorite song unless it's that prodigy song) when she opens it. It would help with the appropriate ideas if we knew what the situation was.

We sure do! Well, at least I do. Anything that someone spends some time on and puts some thought into is a great gift in my book!

the situation is: she's just been away for 2 weeks in taiwan for business. and she's coming back in 2 weeks. we've been going out for 8 months, and i just want to do something special.
the weather outside is sunny. however, inside the house is very cold (bad insulation).
as for the cooking idea. i pretty much cook for her all the time, and b/c she works late nites, when she comes home i give her a foot massage.
i'd like to stay with the arts/crafts idea. i want to make something to frame. unfortunately, we don't have too many pictures to make collages (sp?) or anything.
i was thinking of poetry as well. i know a little caligraphy, and i could hand write a poem i like, and frame it.
btw, does anyone remember the movie patch adams? there was a poem in there by pablo neruda, anyone know where i can find it?
Maybe here (http://www.aspirennies.com/private/SiteBody/Romance/Poetry/Neruda/NerudaPoetry.shtml)
I've never seen the movie, so I don't know if the one you are looking for is included. Good luck, and GREAT idea!

Flowers are a good start. I get that hint(i.e. punched in the arm and slapped upside the head) all the time whenever it's mentioned. So before anyone mentions a flower related topic...SHUTUP YOU!! :P

Here's the best idea that someone told me.
Go to her favorite restaurant and get takeout.... earlier in the day!
Then rent a UHaul... and blindfold her...
Decorate the inside of the UHaul w/ really really nice decorations like velvet curtains, candle lights... etc. etc.
then serve her the food from the nice restaurant and she won't know the difference... .just make sure you put on the parking break.

:hmm: contrary to what my bf wrote (mcs328)...I have never gotten a single rose not even ONE from him.. so I'd say something special for a girl would be a single rose and something small, like a nice cozy warm blanket just for her since the place where you two live is cold? That I think would be sweet or get her something you know she has been wanting and because you are thinking of her you got it for her... or just the thought of you missing her and asking for ideas.. show her this web site... personally I think this is sweet in itself...:)

heres something someone did 4 me. it was a surprised and i totally loved it.
told me to get dress up a lil. took me out to this nice restaurant where the food kinda sux but the view was amazing so it more than made up for it. i loved it so much...it overlooked the city & was just breathtaking. we spent some time out on the patio just looking down. :) after that we drove back. and then he took me to the park.... there were roses, music, and a blanket set out. it was so sweet. :) read a poem he wrote to me. we had chocolate covered strawberries and drinks. hand fed each other. there was roses all around the blanket. very very thoughtful. :)
awww...very romantic. very thoughtful. very sweet. something i'll always remember and cherish. :)
ah the bittersweet memories...... :(

it doesn't matter :D
hell, you can tell her before she goes to work in the morning that you're going to do it, and she'll still be thrilled.
btw, i have had very good experiences with ProFlowers.com. you can often get a dozen roses for around $30, delivered FedEx, from there (although at valentine's day and other peak times, expect to pay around $50). they flowers are EXCELLENT quality, and the recipients are endlessly thrilled ;)

I took this metal workers course for custom jewelry making, I made what looked like a pocket watch case but when you opened it up it was a locket for two pictures. then I also made a stand to put it on a flat surface or something, it had heart shapes cut into it. We got married and I never officially gave it to her but I have it here at home, I'll try and attach a picture.
**EDIT-here are the pictures, I forgot to mention they were made of silver**

i want to do something "romantic" for my gf.
Sometimes its the simplest things that mean more...depending on how "high maintenance" she is...it really shouldn't take too much to make a romantic evening...I think the attention to her alone and being alone would be enough..others like the whole dinner/dancing thing...Flowers are great if she's not use to getting them, but if she is use to it, it'll be another ho hum moment...I personally love springy/wild flowers...roses die too quick..so send :P
Anyhow...
Though I would beg to differ, you may think this is corny...because after seeing all the great suggestions in here, this might look very trivial...but I tell you...its meaning can't be replaced...and if your girlee has any sort of romance in her, or isn't some high maintenance, money groveling hoochie mamma...she'll appreciate where this came from...
I was given a gift a long time ago...It still sits on my dresser where I'm sure it'll be, I'm sure for a very long time...
Giving gifts sometimes doesn't always mean the most pricey things...material things are so...the norm...(even though I loveeeee the mall & shoes..and clothes...and blah blah blah :P )...think about it...whats a gift you can give that noone can ever take away..or one you can't use up within a week or a month..or one that won't die eventually or be eaten up...
An empty gold box...yup...not only did he give me an empty gold box...it was the way he gave it to me...setting aside the place we were at...the atmosphere might have been a moonlit stroll on the beach ...but it wasn't..far from it...and to be honest with you, everything around me didn't exist at that point...just us....
I remember him taking the box out and giving it to me...and opening it finding nothing...and I remember every last thing he said ( which was very private)...by time I reclosed the box...the meaning behind it all was obvious.......Whats the most precious possession you could ever have from a loved one..unconditional love...and basically anything you can't buy...use your imagination....
Its not so much the present...I think romance comes from the genuine look and sincerity of someone while they're giving you the gift..THAT is romance...
Anyhow.........thats that...
My bet is...noone ever gave her an empty gold box...
:)
