View Full Version : What to buy my dad for Xmas?

Being the good person I am (as well as bored as hell), I'm pretty much done with my Xmas shopping, most of which was done without stepping in a store (thank you amazon.com).

However, I can't really think of what to get for my dad. Any suggestions under $100?

He already has a digital camera, digicam, and pda, along with a lot of other tech products.

I was at Sears yesterday, they have a 150 piece Craftsman mechanic's tool set on sale for $99, regularly $169. I'm thinking about getting that for my dad. He always says you can never have too many tools!

It's a good idea, but I don't think he needs (or even uses) tools.

Does he golf or ski, etc? What hobbies does he have?

What about some nice tobacco, or a great box to keep his stuff in? Or, maybe an antique pipe to display?

Another good idea, which we had last year, but I think it's something we try not to encourage, so we try not to buy any smoking paraphenilia.

Sorry to be shooting ideas down, but it's helping me. Thanks!

Good for you! (About trying not to encourage it)

What about a gift certificate online? I mean, like from GiftCertificates.com (http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=37920809&siteid=39061139&bfpage=home) or even Half.com (http://www.qksrv.net/click-692316-167876) which does gift certificates now. That way, he can use that money to buy what he wants....

I think a GC would be the last resort...only I feel like he'll never use it.

I think I'm looking for something neato, like a gadget of some kind. Last year I got him a digital picture frame and I guess he liked it since it's on his desk at work (he loves taking digital pictures).

I found this microsoft tv picture viewer where you could play pictures on a tv, but it uses floppy disks and I doubt we have even a disk at home. I was thinking of getting that HP printer that you could stick your memory stick in and print them out directly, but we already have a printer and a computer so there's no point.

So basically, if you find a cool gadget, let me know.

Buy him a nice tie, or some socks... dads always love that kind of stuff. :P

How about a new photo printer. There are several models that can print right from the memory card used in digital cameras. It's a cool toy, as well as being a useful appliance.

I installed a wireless network for my dad-in-law. He bought the wireless card and base station and I bought him a 4 port router (or is it a switch or a hub, I've never figured out the difference). As for my real dad, I haven't gotten him anything. Perhaps a nice pen. Or perhaps cafine soap from thinkgeek. You should look there for ideas.

Feeling a little redundant today, are we? :)

How about a green laser pointer?

Isn't a digicam a digital camcorder, meaning it takes MOVING pictures?

Hmm...that's the most unusual idea today. An interesting one, yet unusual. Thanks though.
