View Full Version : I need advice on an "adult" issue

Here's the situation ($2000 is at stake):

About a year ago, I tried a service that let you put streaming webcam on a webpage, so that you can send people the link and they can see ya. I thought it'd be great, because instead of having to connect to one person at a time through netmeeting, I'd be able to send the link to old friends and such. It turns out anyone can browse from this service's site, and my email was on my page.

A few days later I got 2 emails from people who had seen me. They left their AIM names in it. The first guy was a 33 year old bisexual man who couldn't remember watching my cam. He was very polite and never bothered me again. The second was a 26 year old female law student from Boston. She was also very polite.

About a month later, we had been having small talk every once in a while online, she sent me some "adult" pictures of herself. She had been asking if I would "forget" to turn the webcam off sometime, like if I was changing, but I never did. But she was always very considerate about it, as in saying she'd rather me be honest than me do something I didn't want to.

A few months later, she offered some money for some digital pics of me, adult of course. Very hesitant, I declined again. Started at about $100. Every month or 2, the offer would increase, until about 3 months ago she offered $500 for a few nakie pics or $750 for a netmeeting. I also declined this, I mean, how could someone have this much money? She told me that she had done this with 3 other guys before, and if I wanted to, she could give me the contact info for them if I wanted to make sure she was who she said she was. She was very understanding (oddly enough), and she stopped bothering me about the offer.

Last night I was at the computer lab with a guy and gal friend of mine, and I went online to send a message, and sure enough, she strikes up the conversation. She had bought a $500 Amazon.com gift certificate along with offering $500 over Paypal for the webcam. My guy friend says, "I'll do it for that $500 gc!" ... and for kicks, I asked her what the figures would be if my gal friend would be in the "show" as well. She said $500 GC and $1000 paypal. Her final offer was $500 GC and $1500 paypal. That's $2000. WOW.

There are two issues here:
Moral
I would never do this personally. That means that if I were to ever decide to do this, I'd get someone to do it for part of the pot. See, it's like that whole angel-and-devil-on-shoulder thing   There's part of me that has developed since I started reading Got}Apex? deals and Fatwallet Forums, that I'm always looking for a deal... but next--

Legal
Is this even legal? Could I get in any trouble with this? I have checked her IP... it IS in Boston. I live in PA/VA so it's far enough away... I mean, is there any safety issues anyone can think of with this (I would plan on using someone else's paypal account and I wouldn't be the one in the pictures/webcam) ... this issue is the biggest one I need help with. Also, she had said that it would be from the shoulders down (to ensure privacy) and she sends the money upfront. Could this be some secret agency working against me? Some crazy lady/guy? Thanks for reading all of this, I appreciate your time, and if you can give some insight, I'd really appreciate it. Don't flame me morally though, because I have held out thus far! :)

Well. I'd say do it. As far as I know it's legal, as long as everyone involved are adults. try to get a face shot of her (doesn't have to be nekkid) and take a screen shot with your aim conversation in the background and save it, just in case. Other than that, I could use that money if you have a problem morally accepting it :D

Picture this my friend, if you accept:
You receive the Amazon certificate and Paypal transfer right before the "performance". You have the performance and then find that the gift certificate was already used and they Paypal transfer is recalled the next day over some technicality (right Passwird?). They you still owe your friends for doing the show and you got nothing out of it.

If I was inclined to do something like that, I would have them mail a check and wait 10 days after it cleared before I provided the service. It's not like you can get the item back some how. And most likely some pay website will be streaming it the next day.

So make sure you get paid up front.

this reminds me of when i used to have a webcam. one night while talking to a friend in brazil, a guy IMs me telling me that i look cute, wondering if i experimented w/ homosexuality, etc, etc, blah blah blah. :puke: needless to say, i never used my webcam again.

anyhoo, yeah, this "deal" sounds like there are just way too many holes...

don't u have to wonder why she wants you on video so bad? i would think that either you're just so unbelievably hot that you make brad pitt look hideous, or that you're just one of many that she's making this offer to... in which case, you might want to find out what she's doing with all these videos before anything. if you really want the money, maybe get a legal contract drawn up that states what the video can be used for? must be a bit of a compliment all the same though! :P no one's ever offered me 2k to prance around naked!

another thought just occurred to me...what if it's not just for a sick, one-time voyeur type of thing but, instead, she(very questionable that it's a "she") wants to record you and put the file up on "HER" porn mega-site?

Do it. Let the G/A? community review it afterwords.

but my mega-pr0n site is doing so well! I mean granted it littered with pasty-fleshed-color heathens that try to pass themseleves off as real humans, but everyone knows the difference between a casual computer user, and geeks' like on my site...

If you got the goods that are worth $2000 then do it. Show her your the total package.

It might be illegal if done on school property. I'd consult some legal expert on this one.
Personally, I think its a scam. Definitively not for personal use only. I'd be careful.

Thanks a BUNCH guys ... I enjoy reading your opinions. I've tried to fill all the holes in her story, and everything checks out... there's always the statistic that if you're living in Boston and going to law school (apparently she's working at a firm and schooling at night), she's bound to be living somewhat comfortably, if not very.

She's online a lot, even when I'm on another name, so I know she doesn't sign on just when I am. And yes, I do have a pic of her face... let me try to find her IP... 24.128.52.164

When shady businesses pull these scams, I've seen people posting their IP's... if this was a bad thing for me to do, just holler and I'll take it off -- but since you guys were talking about her owning a pr0n site or something, I figured someone would know how to look that up (I found the address from www.geobytes.com).

About the school property thing -- even when I've gone home on breaks she's asked about it then, so I doubt she was trying to trick me or anything.

Thanks once again; it's a good feeling to have some help in either uncovering this mystery or getting rich =P Ooops, one more thing, she did say that I could use the GC right away, but I'm not sure how the PayPal would work. My friend gave me the info that you can withdraw payment afterwards, but perhaps you can do something to secure the transaction? Blah, thanks :)

Whats the big deal....get naked online and earn some bucks. I dont know what you are worried about...its not like you are doing crimes against nature (I hope) or engaged in illegal acts for this person. Its just a matter if you want to find naked pics of yourself on the web.

If you want to get legal fodder for your adult website, you can buy it directly from some of the major adult magazine providers. They will give you an entire library of legal and licensed pictures to start your website. How do I know this you ask? Because one of my good friends is looking into starting an adult site and has already done all the research. He actually works for Ibill, and is how I got invited to all the porn conventions, so he has contacts etc. who are already running it.

Definitely illegal in some areas.

From http://www.maximonline.com/the_ride/road_trip/winners.html

“…Lots of guys were standing on a hotel balcony asking to be flashed, so Molly and Somerset agreed, for the price of five beers. Just as they lifted their shirts, a loud bullhorn sounded from behind them: ‘Busted! You ladies step out of the Jeep.’ The girls complied, expecting a stern talking-to from the officer. Instead, they were handcuffed and arrested for [B]prostitution![/] apparently, in Bay County, Florida it’s prostitution if someone accepts as much as 50˘ in beads for flashing.)

The moneys great, but your basically selling your body. Many people wouldn't have a problem with it, but i personally wouldn't do it.
Not to mention the fact that i wouldn't know what would be done with my image.

I don't know man sounds too good to be true. And you know what they say about that. Too many things can go wrong. Unless you are seriously hard up for money, like dire straights, then I would say skip it.

I feel what you're sayin hapoo -- and esDee, you're right, I'm not in dire straights. I'd love 2 of those 20.1" Dell Flat Panels, but i'll "deal" with these 2 19" CRT's for now ;)

then if it somehow gets around, ppl wont know it you, expect you and the other person

That's exactly the point, if she said "I want a full shot of you" there'd be NO WAY I would do it, or let anyone else do it - that's just naive. Unless you have some distinguishing marks like tattoos or battle wounds or like a 3rd arm growing out of your chest, it's hard pressed to even guess who it is. Man, what a terrible time for this to happen -- finals week starts tomorrow! :o

what would really suck is if your picture got turned into a popup ad for like some voyer website. and then someone in your family was surfing and clicked the wrong link and got a pron popup explosion.

worse yet, what if it got turned into an ad for a gay site?

Wait... you're concerned about the moral repercussions of showing a video of your friends (without head) to some lady and taking some of the money? IMO as long as they know about it and don't have a problem with it, neither do I. Now... as for finals, that I would take more seriously. Don't do it if it'll get into your study time. $2000 is that much money.

have you asked about what she plans on doing with your video?

and how long is the video? like....if it's like a minute....heh - that's pretty sweet money/hour :P

Oh, I also was curious -- It'd be over NetMeeting. Now, to my knowledge, there's no built in record video of the video feed option. My buddy said that you could write a program as simple as taking many screen shots to emulate a video, but as far as I know, there's no way to record from netmeeting. Now, how wrong am I?

blueindian
12-12-2002, 01:10 PM
you don't even have to write a program. i have an extasy everything card that i'm pretty sure would to it. if it won't just do it by itself, i'm sure a more elaborate setup would.

for instance.

computer A has a TV output. using that, view the netmetting session on the TV. Computer B has a video capture card, and is connected to the TV. capture the video.

Jeffbx
12-12-2002, 01:28 PM
...or just use a video capture program like Camtasia (http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp), which will record anything running on your screen.
