Only if there is a major smallpox outbreak somewhere. I doubt it will happen first in rural Minnesota...

Won't be available to the general public untill 2004 most likely, they're saying. We'll see how the security situation is then.

i can't. i have eczema and if you have that you can't get it. well, you CAN get it, but they reccomend not.
one of the possible side effects of the vaccine is developing severe eczema covering the entire body. the chances of that go up drastically if you already have eczema.

They expect the vaccine to kill about 4 out of every million people that take it, and make a number of others seriously ill.
I guess you have to weigh the actual threat to decide if it's worth the risk. I'd probably get it, since I already got it once as a child with no side effects. If I remember correctly, everyone born before 1971 got the vaccine, so I just made the cutoff.

They take a needle with 3 tips and stick you 15 times... 45 needle punctures. Sucks, don't it?

45 pricks....No way, not unless I have to....even then I'd have second thoughts.....

While I may be covered under my initial innoculation, I would consider getting another vaccination. My mother will have to because she's a nurse so I figure I'll just get it with her when I go up to No. Cal with my wife and weiner dog for Christmas.

Actually I don't that much like them either. :P I don't like it when they draw blood cuz they screw up. But shots are ok.

I've been under the knife 3 times for knee problems. I have had LOTS of needles poke me - I'm giving blood at my regular 8 week interval tomorrow so that's one more needle to add to the pile.
I'm not scared of the sight of blood and I'm not scared of needles. Spiders.... that's another story. :P

Yes I will. Many years ago, most of the US took the vaccine and as a result we were able to live our lives without having smallpox kill thousands of us every year. I say it is time we paid back society. Smallpox can only be transmitted from person to person (not counting biological weapons) so if enough people take the vaccine, our kids will not have to.

I really dont think I will get the shots. I hate needles, more than anything, and as such, I wont get it until the need is great.

I seem to think when I was a kid we HAD to get smallpox (or wait-maybe it was polio)vaccines..they were given by a "gun" injection..sounded and looked like a staple gun, we got a nasty scab, and like 3 weeks later it fell off leaving a mark on your shoulder-I still have mine..my husband has one too..as a matter of fact-most people I know have them..hey if someone wants to kill us all badly enough-it wont be small pox that will do it.

it almost sounds like a twilight zone episode....
the president will get vaccinated. however, his staff may not be. the open sore contains a live version of the virus (weakened but still contagious). will he inadvertently spread the disease he is so eager to prevent???
this whole thing seems a little odd. is there THAT much of a threat??
:hmm:

Personally, I don't think so. I think what they're worried about was that there was a smallpox epidemic (I think it was the second to the last one) that occurred in Iraq, so they're worried that Iraq took a sample then and has been storing it. Personally, IMO, if they had them I figure they'd have used it in the last war.

I would consider it, just think, no one up until a year ago would have thought to get vaccinated for anthrax, everyone went into a panic to get the stuff once the problem surfaced...
