Are Routers Compatible?

I just got DSL and have it hooked to a PCMCIA network card on my laptop. I also bought a network card for my desktop, which I haven't installed yet.
Both of the cards are manufactured by Belkin and are wired units. If I get a different brand router, will it work?

should work. routers don't really need to be in a like network to work the same. plug n play away!
