This is the place people..
when did you find out,How,from whom, and what did you think once you found out?...
Ok I'll start..
I was 10 years old, I was the youngest of six miserable greedy siblings who were pissed that I still believed in Santa-My brother took me down into the basement and lifted up the cedar chest lid-and showed me all my gifts-even on Christmas morning-I stood there looking at the gifts thinking I got gyped-that Santa didn't show up because my brother showed me the gifts from my mom..BOY WAS I DUMB..once I realized the magic was gone..I cried.
That's one of the reasons why I love christmas and collect santa's now...I never really stopped believing THE IDEA of Santa-my kids have always had a house full of santa's to appreciate-and look at-and of course as soon as I thought the kids at school were leaking it to them that there was no santa-we started to drop hints-when I told my youngest child there was no santa I got so depressed-because Christmas would never be the same. When my oldest daughter threatened to tell one of my sons that I was Santa-I warned her that if she did I'd take all of her stuff to the Salvation army and give it to kids who really NEEDED it..she thought I was bluffing..she let the cat slip out far enough that the brother started asking questions-so I packed up her stuff (or so she thought-they were decoy boxes that I had packed for the salvation army toy drive- wrapped with her name on them)and took a road trip to the "sally's"..MAN DID SHE GET PISSED OFF WHEN told her to take her names off and put the gifts in the deposit barrells...I never heard a 13 year old cry as hard as she did that day..

I was 8 or 9 talking with schoolfriends during some school-based holiday presenation in the auditorium. The subject came up and debate ensued (as you might imagine, me being there and all :P ). That's when the seed was first planted as far as I can imagine. Over time I became more and more skeptical. There was never an abrupt moment of revelation. It was more a slowly growing doubt that eventually ended in total disbelief. I don't remember exactly how long it took, though.

There is a Santa Clause. I believe in him. But I think he just spies for the government now. He uses his naughty and nice powers to pick us out and inform on us...
We grew up without a Santa Claus. God delievered all our presents  Then as soon as I was able to understand that God wasn't a person, We were told that it was actually my dad.
I was 10ish, and I accidently found the stash. :( Mom made it up to me by letting me get back out of bed after the little kids were asleep and help put out the gifts and fill the stockings.
I'm not looking forward to the days when my kids no longer believe.

My story is almost exactly like yours, Kim. It was around 9-10, I think. And every year after that, I got to help her finish wrapping late that night and setting out all the presents. I got to help with my brother & sister's stockings (they are 2 years & 6 years younger than I am) but had to go to bed when she was ready to put out mine. I remember when my sister found out. Christmas changed dramatically for us after that. It wasn't as magical. :(
I figured it out myself. I think I was 4 years old. It made no sense that this guy we were never supposed to see would be at three stores in a row at the same time, and at stores way across town.
After that, my parents didn't bother with the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny.

never believed in santa clause. never felt sad about that fact either.
i do wish that my parents hadn't been such nazis about it though. i mean, a kid should be able to mention it, even if they know it's not "true".
i fail to see the magic in seeing a kid all excited over something imaginary. but i don't have kids and i'm not particularly a fan of kids, so i'm probably not a good one to discuss this topic ;)

I was probably 6 or 7. My bedroom was across the hall from the attic door. On Christmas Eve, my parents thought I was sleeping and got all the "Santa" presents out of the attic. I wasn't sad at all, in fact I remember I was happy, because it finally made sense. Kind of like I was "in" on the secret.
We don't do the Santa thing with our kids. Christmas is magical enough as a celebration of Christ's birth, that's what we focus on. We still give gifts and surprise the kids with extra gifts on Christmas morning, but they're from us, not Santa. The kids still watch the Santa movies and read the Santa stories, but it's just like any other fairy tale to them.
They know enough not to spoil the fantasy for other kids, although most of their friends don't believe anyway.

u mean he ISN"T REAL?!?!? :bawl: :bawl: :cry2:
I heard kids talking about him at school, but I never believed in him. He wasn't a celebrated thing in my family until my mother got re-married when I was 9 and they had another child. With my half-brother, they did the Santa Claus thing every year. I was the one who ate the milk and cookies. I had to purposely leave crumbs on the plate and a little bit of milk left.

Why? If you think about it, he probably didn't get that belly by leaving food unfinished. :P

There is a rule in my house.
If you dont believe you dont recieve. What this means is that if you dont believe in Santa Clause you dont get the extra presents from him. I suspect my youngest daughter KNOWs there is no Santa but she knows better then to admit it or act otheriwse.
There is nothing lower then having to bribe your kids to display holiday cheer. :)
