Long story....
We just had a drug test today, in my Department, and first let me say that I am completly clean and have never tried any drugs (except alcohol)
So with that out of the way I ahve a few questions about drug testing...
How accurate and how far back do saliva tests work?
How much does a single saliva test cost?
How long does it take to get the results back?
How easy is it to fool a saliva drug test?
Now with the questions out of the way, here is the story (long) for those that might be interested. I work for the Tech Dept. of a large bank (worth 7 billion). In mid October while there were very few people in my building, one of my bosses (I will refer to him as Nick) smelt pot smoke in the bathroom. Now all of us know exactly who did it...there is not a doubt in our minds.
I shall call her Mary. Mary is in the 2nd lowest position in our department (Help Desk), and she does not do any work. No one in our department gets along with her. And we are pretty sure that their is either something going on between her and my other boss (Lewis) or she has some good dirt on Lewis.
How do we know its her?
Well we have a department that currently consists of 16 people. Out of those 16 only 7 were in the office when the bathroom incident occured, and I know for fact that 1 of those (Nick) does not do drugs. So we are now down to 6 people.
Now that is not enough to suspect her, but throw in the fact that a roach (butt of a joint, for those who dont know) was found in the ashtray of the company van. Only 8 of us have access to the departments van. Cross referencing the group of 7 with the group of 8 leaves us with 2 suspects....Lewis and Mary
On top of that we can throw in a few more facts.
Mary was friends with an ex-employee who had the same dealer as her, we know she smokes up.
I know 7 out of my 15 coworkers very well, only two of them smoke pot, and they both quit some time ago. The van incident could not have been them, as they were the two who found it, and would have just thrown it away if it were theirs.
Mary has been caught smoking cigerettes in our building (she does it when its cold or raining out) on a few occasions.
Unfortunatly Lewis always covers for her (although in the past half year he has been getting quite upset with her) and she never seems to get in trouble.
Also to my dismay, it was announced before the drug testing, that noone would be fired if they tested positive and that it would also not be announced who tested positive.
This saddens me and at least 1 other coworker (Jason) greatly. Jason and I dont see eye to eye on all of the arguments against full disclosure, but here they are.....(we are thinking about posting a petition for full disclosure)
Why we should be informed about who tested positive:
1. Often enough we go to remote locations in teams, and we would feel uncomfortable driving in a car where the driver might be under the influence.
2. We are constantly basing decisions on information from eachother, and we cant put our full faith in that information anymore knowing they might not be clear in the head.
3. We would feel uncomfortable using the company car, knowing that there is a possibility that a roach or small bag of pot might be in there, and if we were to get pulled over for speeding that we could possible have possesion put on our records.
4. We occasionally let eachother use our personal cars for buisness or pleasure when the company van is out. How can we feel comfortable continuing this if the person we give out keys to might be under the influence. (cars that get borrowed.... Audi A4, VW Passat V6, Mercedes SLK, Subaru Wagon, Nissan Altima...these are not cheep cars to lose)
Can you think of any other arguments to put on the petition????
