I am looking to upgrade my computer (OK- put together a new one) and everything now seems to be USB2. I just got a new Epson print/copy/scanner and it only has a USB connection. Will that be able to work with a USB 2 system? Is there an adaptor cable or are they too different? Thanks for the help! :bandit:

The connections are all the same, you won't need anything new.

USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with USB 1.1. Also, USB 2.0 architecture uses the same cables and connectors as USB 1.1 compliant products. However, only like 30% of all cables out there are certified for USB 1.1. If you are using a USB 1.1 hub, the USB 2.0 device will only run at the speed of the slower devices.

USB 1.0 & 1.1 is fine for most devices. Things like printers, scanners and the like since these devices don't really put too much through the pipe. USB 2.0 is only really needed for external storage devices like hard drives, CD-RWs, and video editing, you know, things that move really large amounts of data.

It sounds like everything you have will work just fine.

:bandit: Thank you guys. I have been using WebTV which isn't a computer at all and am ready to grow up and move on to the real thing. Let's put away the training wheels on the bicycle boys!

Very good. Please do enlighten us with complete specs once you have chosen your hardware. ;)

Sounds good to me. I just ordered that exact motherboard and sticks of memory for the Athlon XP 2400+ I won last week.

Everyone seems to want that board. Seeing the reviews it's no wonder.
