View Full Version : Treasure planet?

I heard this morning that treasure planet has not been doing well financially. Too bad, (I was surprised), as I very much enjoyed the movie.
No big plot development (it's identical to Treasure Island.) The art was *brilliant*, and the movie just felt good to watch. The combination of CG and hand-drawn animation reminded me of the cut scenes in Final Fantasy Games.
Am I the only one that liked this movie?

No your aren't the only one that liked this movie!
I went and saw it with Dopey and his kids over opening weekend, and we all liked it. I agree the art was like amazing. And I really did like the movie and so did the kids...

The opening weekend was so bad that Disney execs say that may be the last of the big budget cartoons for Disney.
People I talked to liked it but T.P. and the movie before it didn't do well in the box office. They tied up millions$$$ starting 4 years ago so thats a lot interest they have make up. I figure they'll still break even by the time the video hits.
Guess we have to wait for the next DW cartoon....

REALLY REALLY bad marketing plan on Disney's behalf. Seems they just don't push their animated films that much.
For instance, how many people knew that Lion King was coming out on IMAX?

that lion king might be worth seeing. big ole simba!
with Disney, it's not just marketing. they spent lots of money on advertising and x-promotions. i think it's hard to out do themselves year after year.
they also lost pixar(sp?). that british company that did the toy stories etc. pixar was doing so well that they said they'd only work with Disney if Disney became only a distributor.
Disney wouldnt bite and now they lost the best thing they had going.
Kind of like nintendo losing Rare (DK country) to MS. :(
