View Full Version : Gore Won't Run in 2004, Says Adviser
WASHINGTON - Former Vice President Al Gore, who came agonizingly close to winning the presidency two years ago, has decided not to run for the White House again in 2004, a senior Gore adviser said Sunday.
Gore likely would have been the early Democratic front-runner and his sudden withdrawal opens up the race to other challengers to an expected re-election bid by President Bush.
Among Democrats, Vermont Gov. Howard Dean already is running and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry has formed an exploratory committee. Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, Gore's running mate in 2000, has said he is interested in running
Also considering a run are Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle, Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt and North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.
Gore planned to announce his decision Sunday night on CBS "60 Minutes," the adviser said.

wooo hooo! that could not make me happier.
i cannot stand al gore as a person -- he just grates on my nerves. so to think that we won't have to put up with him and having to hear over and over and over again about how this is a grudge match over florida.....that is great.
the other advantage is that i think it will give the chance for more discussion of issues rather than of the personality clash between bush and gore. of course, the chance of that actually happening is low, as most members of the news media would rather focus on ANYTHING other than actual issues

Ya know, I thought personality contests were supposed to be for highschool presidential elections.
I like Al Gore (including his personality). Did you see him on SNL. I thought he was a pretty funny guy. I really want him to run.

I want him to run too. I'd rather see his daughter than any of GW's. :D

This is a smart thing for Gore to do. Its what's best for the Democratic Party. The party really needs to get its ****e together, figure out what it really stands for, and reorganize accordingly. It needs to enter a "rebuilding" phase, so to speak. It will only become irrelevant if it continues to cling to leaders who were unable to lead them successfully.

No. Please not him. He's the guy who figures violent video games are what's wrong with America, and what's anything with a PG-13 rating banned.
Apex should run, and get us a deal on the national budget ;)

Nah... even if Lieberman runs, he's not going to win. This country is not yet ready to vote in a jewish candidate. Sorry to sound racist, but that's the situation as I see it. :)

Maybe... but gore almost won with lieberman by his side.
Personally i couldn't care less if our president was a little green martian as long as it didn't effect his decissions.

As an independant, if my only choices were Bush or Gore, I would vote for Gore.
If my choices were Bush, Gore or a sock pupet, I would still probably vote for Gore, but it would be a close call.

Well if the democratic challenger has nothing to offer, then I am atleast hoping for a fairly good third party candidate. Nader was pretty good last time around.
I have a feeling that Bush is going to be running on an anti terrorism platform if the Economy doesn't get better.
Democrats will run on a Bush and GOP screwed the Economy platform or something like that.
When they need to run on a lets focus on America platform before we nuke Iraq.
People tell me that I wasted my vote on Nader, but the lesser of two evils wouldn't have done it for me. I voted for who believed stood up for the issues that I found important. Besides in the winner take all election are votes don't really count, not with that electoral college thingie out there. anyway I voted the way I believed in, not like my friend in the first election we both voted on, I voted early for dole (duck) and my friend also like Dole, but he saw that Dole was getting his butt majorly kicked, and voted for Clinton so he could say he voted for the winner. LOL

I hate that. Saying you wasted your vote is the same as saying Don't Vote.

Yeah, actually that would be Lieberman's best shot at this stage.

If my choice was Bush or a small blue whale, I would vote for the small blue whale.
If my choice was Gore or a used oil filter, I would vote for the used oil filter.
I wanna see McCain run as a Democrat, or independent. Or the National Order of Moose Lodges
