I just got one a couple weeks ago to go with my creative zen.
It was an SIIG and so far its worked perfectly. It set me back 35 dollars. I wouldn't be surprised if they are all the same though.

you could always go with an audigy II and get a soundcard and a fw port for the price of one item

I just picked up a Siig firewire PCI card with cable and Ulead VideoStudio6 (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=287559) for $20 at CompUSA about 3 days ago. I also picked up a Siig USB2.0 PCI card (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=289091) for $20. They show on the website for $40 each but mine rang up as $20...Might be worth checking out...no rebate hassles either:cool:

Pretty much any firewire card is the same, one thing to make sure that it is ohci certified if you plan on doing any dv editing, this will handle a lot of driver issues with some software. Also the drastic price difference you're seeing is probably to do with the software the card comes with. I bought a texas instruments card from compgeeks for like $15 and it works great on my parents computer so far.
