Hi
I have 256mb of pc2100 ram. Do I have to change any settings in order to add another 256 mb or ram that is pc2700? Thanks

Check if ur mobo supports PC2700 RAm first. If ur sure it does, u dint need to change any setting manually. The computer will automatically detect the newly installed memory.

Depends upon your bios setup. Best case scenario: no-your SPD chip will autoconfigure your comp to the slower DIMM and your comp will run both DIMMS at the slower speed. Worst case scenario: your comp will try to run both at the faster speed (if your mobo supports it) and your cpu will not run into the OS, forcing you to manually set your memory timing to the speed of the slower DIMM.

My bad, I did not really understand ur question properly. So its like this;
Ur comp already has 2700 ram in it.
U want to install a 2100 ram.

I agree with Bire..

no. your ram will always run at the fastest speed of the slowest RAM.

In your case you will have two RAM CHips running at pc2100, even thought one is 2100 and one is 2700.

Nija is right, BUT, you can try and o/c your PC2100 RAM...that's the only way you'll get the 2100 to run at 2700 speeds.

Is that possible? Or do you have to buy like ram heatsink spreaders to even get close?
