you get to listen to songs on an album that you normally wouldn't be able to.
I just got DSL, and naturally downloaded KAZAA. I was going to buy the new Mariah Carey album, but after listening to one of the songs, I am having second thoughts. If a few more downloads of other songs from that album prove to also sound lousy, I am going to pass on buying it.

What? You are supposed to buy the cd for $15 even if it has one good song on it.

The preceeding me$$age ha$ been brought to you by the RIAA

So the record industry cut their inventory (and artist investment) by 25 percent and sales only dropped 4.1 percent, even though the economy is at rock bottom. There were almost 12,000 fewer new releases for the consumer to choose from in 2001 than 1999. The record companies are making more money per release than ever.

Zieman points out that only 3,000 sales of each of the missing 12,000 titles would have been enough to see overall growth continue to grow.

interesting articles sbp.

i'd like to see how long it is before the mainstream U.S. media picks up this story -- the way the numbers add up is surprising (well, not really), and i'd at least like to see the RIAA try to explain their way out of it.

oh, wait, that would be way too much investigative reporting for the average u.s. reporter, and anyway, why would you want to upset the record-label arm of the massive media conglomerate you work for?

Are you referring to this (http://www.hollywoodpulse.com/archives2-46.html#Disturbing)? Satire at its greatest right there, folks.

My sister is not too fond of her, either. However, I sincerely believe she is the best female singer the world has ever known. I totally love her singing.
Oh well, to each his own. :)

Most people have a range of 2 to 2 1/2 octaves. Julie Andrews has a range of about 5 octaves, how much range does Carey have? While she might have a very good publicist, a good voice, and a great stage presence, I doubt she is the best female vocalist the world has ever known. I would believe it if you said that she is the best you ever heard. And I would reccomend you listen to more female vocalists if that is the case.

Well, I am not into opera, so that doesn't count. And I am definitely not into show tunes or classical music so they are out. That leaves rock, country and jazz. I think that over the years, I have heard a large enough sample of female artists in those categories to come to my conclusion about Mariah.
Of course, everyone has their own tastes, and that's what makes the world go 'round.
BTW, I believe if Selena were alive today, she would have been one of the top performing female singers.

Actually, a music teacher told me Mariah has about 6.5 octaves. Or had at least. I've been noticing her voice getting weaker in the extreme ranges, a bit as the years have passed.

Yeah, I've also been informed about Maria's crazy range, I don't listen to her very much, though.

I believe that happens a lot as people age. Steve Perry and Billy Joel definitely can not reach the notes which they could when they were younger.

Yo, isnt Billy Joel the guy who wrote a song about Allentown, PA?!!

Selena is awesome..I have her CD...as far as Mariah...I liked her when she started out...in my opinion..she's since gone downhill...not only with her singing, but her reputation...she's sleezoid in my book..
Celine...Faith Hill...theres so many that outsing Mariah...
I guess we all have our tastes... How bout that baby over the window ledge "boy" lol ( Michael Jackson ) blahhh

...Kazza , btw, messes my computer up everytime I load songs...I have to shut down completely after I've pulled it up...

I have listened to a few more songs from "CharmBracelet". If anyone had heard Mariah for the first time listening to the garbage on this album, they wouldn't be too impressed. I can't imagine who picks the music for her recently.
However, her early stuff is really good. Maybe I am just giving her too much credit for her old stuff while she gradually loses it. It's a shame!
I am also starting to have more problems with my computer since I loaded KAZAA. Maybe I should just get rid of it.
