View Full Version : send package to Japan?

Has anyone here ever sent a package to japan? I want to send some presents to my host family while i lived there but havent been able to find a good way.
USPS wants to put it on the slow boat, taking 4-6 weeks, or 4 days for like $40.
Its a flat, rectangular box, not much bigger than a large text book. Its filled with sweatshirts and t-shirts so its not very heavy. Has to go to hiroshima in about 2 weeks :)
Anyone ever done this before and know of a good company?

Yes, I've shipped to Japan, and that rate sounds accurate. UPS will cost you double.
If it's any consolation, the "slow boat" method doesn't really take 6 weeks. It takes closer to 2-3 weeks, but no guarantees.
Sorry, I don't know of any better options, except maybe gift certificates!

Oh Man, so this was posted on 12-17? I mailed it on the 19th of december. I just talked to my host parents in Japan. They received the package last monday. Thats like 10 weeks!!!! Four weeks longer than they told me at the store. MAN. Forget USPS for international shipping!!

Yeah really, forget USPS for international shipping. They can't even get an airplane ticket to Toronto without losing it.

god damn, 10 weeks from here to Japan. That is ridiculous. I had sent some stuffs from Japan to Los Angeles, and they were in all kinds of packages (cards, magazines, my car's coilover, and etc) and the most it took 4 weeks to arrive.
