New Mexico teen dies after attempting Jackass stunt
ALBUQUERQUE (AP) — A teenager died while practicing what police say was a stunt he and a friend had seen in the movie Jackass.

Stephen Paul Rauen, 15, was ejected from the top of a friend's car Monday after he'd jumped onto the hood, Albuquerque Police spokesman Jeff Arbogast said.

When the driver hit the brakes, Rauen hit the pavement, then was run over and dragged a short distance.

"We had reports the individuals had done it before," Arbogast said.

Police interviewed the driver Monday evening, but Arbogast said it was too early to say whether criminal charges would be filed.

Jackass: The Movie, which opened in October, is based on the MTV show of the same name. Creator Johnny Knoxville has said the goal of his kamikaze comedy is to make people laugh, and he has no message besides, "Don't try this at home."

Comic bits in the movie range from running around naked in public and Candid Camera-style pranks to injuries and gross-out antics.

The film is rated R for "dangerous, sometimes extremely crude stunts, language and nudity," according to the Motion Picture Association of America.

The TV show, which still airs in late-night reruns, drew criticism that it encouraged dangerous behavior.

After Knoxville wore a fireproof suit and allowed himself to be set ablaze and "roasted" on a grill, a few imitators were severely burned when they defied the show's disclaimers and performed their own variations on the stunt in 2001.

Just last week, a 13-year-old Indiana boy died and five other teens were injured after the van they were traveling in hurtled off a railroad track at more than 70 mph, crashed into a parked car and slid 400 feet.

Authorities, who found a camcorder and video cassette near the van with scenes from the show, believe the accident may have been an attempt to a recreate one of the show's stunts.

The movie and the television show repeatedly run disclaimers, urging viewers not to imitate the antics.

Haha the title is sort of fitting for the kid. I mean, come on...do they NOT realize that these things are potentially deadly?

It's sad that people are stupid enough to try these stunts and get hurt (or killed). But I don't feel sorry for them because they obviously were not ready to be a productive member of society. If you can be influenced by a movie like this, then you deserve any injuries that you sustain. I'm sure that the families will try to sue the movie studio that made Jackass, even though there was a disclamer (Don't try this at home).

That's why we have the Darwin Award. People who don't have any common sense shouldn't be spreading their genes to a new generation.

I feel sorry for the family. Other than that, what did he and his friends expect? You put your life on the line and either you keep it or you lose it. And so he lost and now he's all paid up.

Of course his friend should go to jail for a while. He could have stopped after he hit the brakes which threw his friend off the road. BUT, he was run over and dragged around a while!!! Was this by another car or the same car?!?

Oh...not dead yet...let me run you over. Idiot!!

The influence and idea comes from Jackass is my opinion. The blame is on his dumbass for thinking that there's no potential for death and it won't happen to him.

i've seen people car surf as many as 10 years ago... on a van too hehe...

the FUN thing to do (dont try this at home) is to ski behind a car holding onto nothing but the rear spoiler...

Takes special shoes, and good leather gear, and a little training :)

Maybe I misread the story but he wasn't already on the top like in Teen Wolf (yes I watched it more than once  ). He jumped onto the hood, then fell, got run over...died.

Hmmmm...I think I blame his idiocy and using the movie as a source of inspiration/outlet of his idiocy.

It seems that we should have more Jack ass movies. Since it's rated 'R' only adults (or the kids sneeking in who are apx adults) will see the movie. After that it's survival of the fittest. Those dumn enough to try the stunts die reducing the world population and weeding out the bad genes. Those who are dumb and try but are successful obvious have some tallent and deserve to be in the gene pool.

Split second decisions can kill you.

They probably saw the movie weeks ago and were like thats funny.

The other day they are hanging out someone says we can do that or something to that effect and now we have a dead kid.

Most of us have done things that could have gone very wrong. I know I could of got myself killed plenty of times. Not making excuses for the kid but we only know about this one moment of bad judgement.

Hopefully people figure it out now.
