I have a Denon receiver and am trying to run a cable from my computer to the receiver so I can play MP3's throughout the house. While I get audio, it sounds horrible (muffled, muted). I'm running it through the phono input (only one open).

Does anyone have a suggestion/idea for correcting this? Should I use a different input?

The receiver is pretty new (3 years old) and everything else from it sounds great.

Thanks.

Note to GAM: not sure if this belongs here or in Home Theatre. I defer to your infinite wisdom. ;)

Ok, this could either be my imagination or a crappy receiver, but when I tried to do that one time, I got terrible sound through the phono plug, but the sound was great through any other plugs. Try unplugging something else and try a different plug and see how it sounds.

You can't run anything through the phono input on the receiver except for a turntable. The phono input has a significantly higher gain and has an RIAA equalizer on it.

I knew there was a reason I spent so much time here. ;)

Thanks!
