The carrier was a great experience. Think about living, eating, working and recreation all on one giant ship.
Did your JROTC experience have an impact on your views and opinions of the service?

Army here, 8 years. 4 years active, 4 years reserve. Job was 29V- Microwave Systems Repairer, got merged to 31P- Microwave Systems Technician. When I was deployed to Haiti, I was trained to do some other job which was basically a UNIX Systems Admin.
Good times. I think Hoser was in for like 16 years or something. I believe he was a trained assasin.

I am in the Air Force...16 years in so far. I'm in Civil Engineering, Utilities System Specialist. 4 more years till I'm eligible for retirement. After that, who knows, I may stay in, or get out and use my degree and management experience for a "real" job. There's a program that "fast tracks" military retirees to become teachers, so that's another option.
The Air Force has been a great opportunity for me. I've been ALL around the world--Egypt, Haiti, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Germany, England, Guam, Phillipines, Korea, and Japan, to name a few that leap to mind. I've learned a trade, made friends for life, gotten an education, and seen the world. I know the military is not for everyone, but if you think it might be, check into it!

I was in the Air Force (active) from 90-94. Then in the AF Reserves from 94-2k. I was a Aerospace Physiology Tech while active. Basically that means SR-71/U-2 Aircrew life support (hight alitude pressure suits/alitutde chamber tech) Was stationed at Beale AFB, CA. My career highpoint was winning airman of the year and getting a check ride in a U-2.
In the reserves I was a Tactical Radio Operator and then cross trained into being a Airborn Radio Operator on C-130 Talon II's.
Thats the quick and skinny on my military career.

US Navy On a Battleship. Was in 5 years, 3 months, 9 days, 17 hours and 4 minutes. Was supposed to be a 4 year hitch with 2 years added on for schools but I only had 18 months added on for the schools and then had an early out when they decommisioned my ship.
I was an Auxileries Machinist's Mate. Which basicaly means I worked my ass off all over the ship, but no one ever dared give me crap.

Hey Grimm~ I had a lot of good friends while I was in that were MM's. Hardworkers indeed, they were always working the longers shifts on the boat.

i thought it was pretty lame. so many people who kissed butt. yeah, JROTC is pretty dumb. don't even get to use real guns, just little pellet guns. but the chance to do some repelling was cool. but my roomie in army ROTC at UCLA likes to tease me about it. hehe.

ROTC is a lame way to get commission! Even we, reservists, don't respect those ROTC lieutenants especially the butter bars! They haven't gotten the experience or training to lead. Most good officers come from West Point or go through Officer Candidate School (at least an E-5 to qualify). :D

my gramps was in the first group of master chief sgt's in the army. then his division was turned in to the air force (when the army air corps turned in to the air force in 1947). Just found this out today.
My uncle just retired from the air force. My cousin and my brother are currently in the air force. Another one of my cousins is in the Marines. Plus more people, but I forget what branches they serve. I come from a very military family. I have too much family over sea's right now. :(
